Hey, I need some clarification from those who know more about these things.

In the photo, my truck has the above sedimenter. To me, logic dictates that if I unscrew the bottom most cap/bolt (with what looks like a bleed screw), I should be able to drain the water or whatever s*** is in there out.

Am I right? or do i misunderstand. I unscrewed the cap, and what was underneath felt to me like a screen of sorts. Nothing drained out, even after i cracked the 10mm bolt on the upper portion which is supposed to act as an air bleed. I was in a time crunch so didn't have a chance to get a good look, and haven't been able to since.

you could have some grit blocking it from draining.
 
They absolutely need to be disassembled to be properly cleaned..

This sedimenter was drained and only clear diesel came out... but look what I found after opening it..

To properly open it unscrew the top plastic part as you see below.. the one above was smashed open as it was leaking anyway.. I find the best way to open them is to lightly clamp the plastic part in a vice and turn the sedimenter itself with your hands.
