Time for a cummins. I'm pondering the same route.

It's just a different set of problems. Makes sense if you tow a lot though.

I don't think a cummins in a 80 makes sense if you are going to turn up the fuel for more power, you'd lose the allwheel dirve when you replace the tranny and to really wheel it with the additional power you'd have to replace the axles...it would be cheaper/faster to buy a 1 ton dodge and boat tail/bob it...I've seriously thought about this but the wife won't give me the green light.

Either way a vehicle will cost you money in terms of maintenance and time.
Ultimately cruisers are not towing vehicles in terms of long term reliability.

Yep, I have nightmares of breaking down up north while hunting where a 300 km bcaa tow gets you to more nowhere (not that I have BCAA, I drive a toyota right ) We're going 32 hours north this year luckily the travel trailer is staying home, we're just taking the boat and tents...
