'01 LX won't start occasionally...... (1 Viewer)

Sometimes when I try to start it, it won't start. The check engine icon does not show up on the cluster during this problem. If I leave the key in the "on" position long enough, the check engine icon returns and it starts.


Also when I try to diagnose it, I get an error on the diagnostic device (2 different devices.) but as soon as the check engine icon returns and it starts, there are no codes to check as the check engine light does not come on while the engine is running.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Look up key transistor here on the sight. I had to replace my keys because I was having a similar problem with hard starting. Another item to look at is the EFI fuse. It could be corroded.

A little more info would be helpful. To start with - what "error" are you getting on the scanner(s)?

FWIW, if it's not cranking at all intermittently, it could also be starter contacts.

Error, meaning it's not getting any info from the truck's computer.

Turns over but doesn't start. Once the check engine icon reappears - after sitting a while with the key in the "on" position, it starts just fine.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the key's transponder.
