Help needed with dash!

A friend bought a HDJ81 (right hand drive) that was converted to left hand drive here in Chile and the dash was "hand made" out of fiberglass and resin, but the job wasn't of the best quality for lack of a better word.

He knows he could eventually buy the parts he needs from SOR, but he's trying to see if he can get a better deal, maybe buying from an individual.

We think that all he needs is the top of the dash (grey) and the front cluster plastic piece (black) that holds all the instruments together. (see photos)

Any ideas? suggestions?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I could help with a complete dash ... it would be from a '95 FJ80 .... I'll look into it tomorrow for you if you'd like ....

That thing looks like it was converted in the Philippines! hehehe. We have the same crappy dashboards.

That's a really crap job

why make one when left and right hand drive dashs are available

Cheap South American labor is the answer. The importers rather do it for cheap ($50 or $100 US) in order to get the vehicles sold than wait for expensive OEM parts to come in from abroad. A lot of people who buy these vehicles sometimes dont know that they used to be right-hand drive. And believe it or not, most dont notice it after they drive the vehicle for a few days. This is not my friend's case, he knew what he was getting into, but when cruisers are rare, people dont mind details like these just to get their hands on one.

Yep, labor is cheap in other parts of the world.

LHD dashboards are a pretty penny here.

Tepui,

I'm taking a look at that dash tomorrow .... I'll try and post some pics so you can see it ....

do you only need the dash cover or would you like the radio and a/c plastic frame as well? .... I ask because your friend's a/c buttons are where the radio is supposed to go and vice-versa and the hazard light button looks like a long stretch;p

saludos,
