Core-Trax makes a very cool, T-6 aluminum track / tie down system that is very handy for anything you'd want to mount anywhere around a pickup bed, etc.

Quick Fist makes a very handy clamp for just about anything you'd want to clamp in place, such as fire extenguishers, shovels, flash lights, even pepper spray.

The problem with the Core-Trax system is that they currently only offer loop tie down points on their movable clips for their track system. Perfect for tie downs, not so perfect for anything else.

The problem with Quick Fist is that they are designed to be screwed/bolted in place. Change your mind later on where you'd like that fire extenquisher or flashlight and it means more holes in the rig.

Solution? Bring these two great systems together.

Here's how.

1. Cut the Core-Trax clip ring

2. Saw off the end of the clip ring post. Band saw is used here, hacksaw & vise work fine.

3. Deburr the cut. Disc sander is used here, hand file & vise work fine.

4. Drill out the end of the clip ring post. You will want a drill press for this step.

5. Tap the hole, in this case for a 10-24 bolt.

6. Layout and assemble the parts. Use stainless steel hardware.

Top to bottom:
  • Stainless steel (SS) 10-24 button head cap screw
  • #10 SS washer
  • Quick Fist Clamp
  • #10 SS fender washer
  • #10 SS nut
  • #10 SS fender washer
  • Core-Trax clip spring
  • Core-Trax clip
  • Core-Trax locking pin

If you have access to some stainless steel and a punch/die, then punch out and drill some #16 SS squares for the top of the clamp. Otherwise, the SS washers work OK. 2nd best to the square washer is to file the edges off of a fender washer to fit.

7. Attach the clip to the mounted Core-Trax and insert your desired item.

And you'll be selling the modified Quick Fist for Core Trax clamps for how much? :D

Damn nice work!!!

I'm gonna go waste the rest of my night slobbering through your website.

Great idea and execution! Looking at your rig...you'd have to be retired to pull that one off ;).

You are correct. we stopped working a few years ago to travel the world on our 1150 GSA.

The construction of the rig started ~15 September, 2006. I worked 7 days a week, 10-14+ hour days, mostly the latter, until 3 June, 2007. My wife estimates that I took off a maximum of 20 days during that span. I honestly don't know how many days the subcontractors put into it, but I believe it is fair to characterize it as "a lot." I don't know how many man-/person-hours that adds up to, but again, I think "a lot," would be a fair characterization.

To get an idea of the tasks involved, check out the project timeline at: http://www.hackneys.com/mitsu/index-calendar.htm . Most of the "actual" tasks listed roll up quite a few things into one line, but it will give you a feel for what is involved.

This would have been a multi-year undertaking working on it part time.

ohhhh now aren't you a clever monkey :D
that is absolutely brilliant and a nice piece of work right there.

FYI to those in the market for a Core-Trax system: Costco.com is currently selling a great Core-Trax system with quite a few bits & bobs for a smoking price of $74 some odd dollars.
