    changing belts on FJ62

Thanks for the replies. I like the 2-piece shroud idea, though maybe next time I get the radiator out, which, hopefully, won't be for awhile.

    changing belts on FJ62

The belts on my FJ62 are starting to squeal a little, and I don't know when they were last changed, so I think it's time to change them. I have a repair manual, and I know how to loosen the pulleys, but the spacing around the fan and fan shroud looks tight. Can you change the belts without...

    seatbelts & pet dividers

CruiserGuy- No part number for the pet divider, but if you search on Amazon.com, they have the one I've seen in most places. I tried a google search on "pet dividers" and the one that kept coming up was the same product on Amazon, just a billion different companies carry it. It looks okay...

    seatbelts & pet dividers

My 9 month old lab puppy chewed through a seatbelt (rear seat)! I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a replacement seatbelt besides the $104 one I saw in SOR. I have an 89 FJ62. I was also wondering if anyone has a pet divider. I saw one made by Smittybuilt, and was curious if...

    3FE Question, overheat

Hmmm. My experience with failed waterpumps was not pleasant: the shaft sheared off, driving the fan into the radiator! There really isn't too much to fail on a waterpump, but.... Try pulling the thermostat out and then running it. If it still overheats, then it's probably your pump.

    Got Pulled Over!?

Being a cop, and having worked in different states, I know that every state is different. For the most part. In CA, you could run w/o doors if your driver's mirror was attached to the body. So you needed a driver's mirror, at minimum. And yes, what good does a RV mirror do if it shakes all...

    FJ62 Market Value

I confess. I paid $11k for my '89 with 85,000 miles on it, and it was CHERRY when I bought it. But the other guys are right. I love my FJ62, but i desire the power of the 80's.

    front axle noise

Front diff has plenty of fluid. Have no idea when the Birfs were repacked. Moly grease, heh? Hmmm. This noise only started after I filled the knuckle from the grease hole. So, I'm probably going to have to pull the knuckle apart?

    front axle noise

Recently did a tune-up on my FJ62, including chassis lube. Today, I went out and locked up the hubs because it's still freakin' snowing in the Colorado mountains, and I got this noise from the front axle. I stopped, unlocked hubs, noise went away. I stopped, engaged 4wd w/unlocked hubs, noise...

    fj60 overheating

Go with the compression test. Any local mechanic should be able to do it for a minimal fee, if any fee at all. They can check the radiator cap too. I wouldn't worry too much about the overheating incident. On my old FJ40, I overheated one winter night on the NJ Turnpike and didn't notice it...

FJ62 Transmission not wanting to shift when cold

Re: FJ62 Transmission not wanting to shift when co Hmmm. You don't say how many miles your cruiser has. Check the tranny fluid level and the quality of the fluid. It should be pink in color. Try replacing the fluid. These are some of the cheaper fixes. I've got an '89 FJ62 w/95K on it...

    Rear diff plugs

All I can say is: Impact wrenches. I wish I hadn't futzed around so much. Mechanic had it loosened on the 3rd trigger squeeze. Thanks again for everyone's suggestions.

    Rear diff plugs

Thanks to everyone for replying. I did get the fill plug out, but still stuck on the drain plug. Tried the penetrating oil too. At this point, I may just take it to the local wrench turner. I'll let you know. THanks.

    Rear diff plugs

Hmmm, cheater bar no help. Just started to strip the plug. Woody, do you have any leakage problems? :dunno: I assume from your post that you're removing the bolts from the diff cover and breaking the seal, let it drain, then bolt it back. Is this right? On previous trucks, I always put a...

    Rear diff plugs

Thanks for the suggestions. 24mm 12 pt socket, 1/2" drive is what I'm working with. I'm basically a shade tree mechanic here, so the welding thing is out for me. I couldn't get the fill plug out either. I'm going to try the breaker bar when the weather clears: it's snowing here in the...

    Rear diff plugs

I'm in the middle of tuning up my '89 FJ62. Got just about everything done except, I can NOT, for the life of me, get the plug out of the diffs. The car is not on a lift or jacks, which I know is a disadvantage. I'm about to go get a breaker bar, but thought I would post here and ask...
