    I just picked up an '04 with 123k on it. Also having a weird shake/vibration in the steering wheel. Tires look to be in good shape, but the lower ball joints and tie rod ends have torn boots. Going to press some new ball joints in and change all the tie rods, see if that helps

    Ok, just swapped the injector to #4 and buttoned it all up. Still runs like garbage. I did a quick check and pulled the #5 plug wire, RPMs went down. Pulled the #4 plug wire, no change. The puff of white smoke out of the exhaust is more like a constant stream filling the neighborhood...

    Well, no signs of anything head gasket related before pulling the fuel injectors. It was replaced by the previous owner.

    All vacuum hoses are new. I did check the resistance on the injectors as well, all within spec of the FSM. I checked through every wire on the harness at the EGR and towards the injectors. My wiring all looks to be in good condition. Unfortunately I did not do a compression test in the past...

    Thanks inkpot! I was able to investigate my problem further. Checked for spark at cylinder 5, good spark. I pulled the upper intake plenum off to get a borescope in there to find all alignment dowels in place! Phew. I couldn't see much with the scope I have but there is a lot of crud built...

    Whoa! I guess that's my next step if this ATF doesn't work. You were able to fish it out with just removing both the upper and lower intake manifold? Guess I need to get a compression tester. Thanks!
