hi, i saw your tread the restoration of the pick up. My compliments, you did a great job.
I have a hj45 pick up in 1977 with a hzj79 bed, that I am restoring and work your way I will 'help.
Unfortunately my engine H had a broken head.
So 'I decided to put a 2H engine and tranny hj 60 5 speeds, hj60 diffs, and change rear axle from a semiflooting fullflooting.
The previous owner had already 'mounted disc brakes and power steering.

I am starting to get all the parts ready for the upgrade! A lot of work omg! I am still missing some parts for the front conversion. I am also waiting for the "new" used 2H engine and some smaller things for the 4 speed hj60 tranny.

Is that a 60 series front axle as well?:hmm:
Are you going to do the disc conversion or swap
in the whole axle?

Yep! 60series! But just the disc conversion and diff. But I am trying to fond some dust covers - no luck so far!!!

Today I had a couple of hours in the garage and I am now ready for the dust covers to arrive. Then I will finish the front axle. Next I will pay attention to the engine and tranny conversion!

I didn't know HJ60 came with 4 speed. I thought HJ60's were all 5 speeds. :meh:
I thought this too 1ton until I starts seeing 4 speed 60's for sale down here. Early 80's rigs only, and by 1985 they were all H55's.

As for bulletproof they pretty much are. The H55's are almost indestructible too, especially behind a Toyota motor.

"more pics! can you tell me if it is a pre84 engine or not?"

Is there a difference mate?

I think early 2H's had a fuel filter that was only the paper element inside a metal canister setup like the H. Later 2H had the spin on fuel filter like in the pic. Plus, I see electrical for Super Glow starting system which is on later 2H's.

Hi guys

Thank you for your replies - its good sense to look at the oil filter and diesel filter... I think it is a later model also! How can you tell it is a suprglow system?

Jesper,
Your 2H looks a lot like mine and mine is an 89'. I was able to date it buy a date code on the alternator wire (not extremely dependable but there doesn't seem to be any good way to date these engines). It is my understanding that the early 2H's had piston sleeves and the later models did not. That makes a difference to some, both are dependable motors. Looking good man keep up the great work!

Jesper I just noticed the cross member under your transmission. If you have the frame "L" brackets for it that is exactly what you need to use. I used a cross member like that when I put a 5 speed in my 40 and it worked very well.
