to check U joints properly remove the shafts from the vehicle. Also look for lateral movement in the joints as well and when removed clean out all the old grease from the slip joints & refresh with new moly grease
Lack of grease can kill ujoints, obviously. Adding grease after they are sick will not make them better. Anyway, I too would check ujoints first and replace as needed.

The Spare Tire "Wrench? is a 3/8 Male Extension.
Ask your Neighbors if they have some 8-12" and you can get it down. If it Resists put a 1/2 Ratchet and reduce down to 3/8"
Toyota knew exactly what they were doing when they made it Square...
Me too, I was very, very bummed. They mentioned since it "might" have rust it could take them a few hours. I told them it's rust free and they said they wouldn't be able to promise to get it out. Whatabunchashmucks
Update: Will be spending the money to buy a spare tire tool because local Toyota dealer was going to charge labor ($175/hr) for removing the spare. :bang: Cheaper to buy the toolkit. Thanks everybody for your input.
Borrow a jack kit from someone with a Tacoma or stop at a dealership to ask them to let it down. Tacoma tools are nearly the same, at least ones from a 2006 are.....
My tool kit was missing so I bought a complete jack and tool kit from a...
Put a trolley jack under the wheel to take the weight then undo the 12mm bolts on both ends of the cross member that holds up the spare. 10 mins and job done. Just don't drop the wheel on your head.
mot got me mine back around 2010, said they were about gone then. I used the Sawzall to cut it out of the dash of my old green 80 I totaled last fall so I had one to install in the LX 450 that replaced the 80 because I knew they were unobtanium...
The point of the viscous coupling is not to stop the fan from spinning. No one cars if it spins freely. The point is to reduce the amount of drag that the fan creates... the amount of power it uses moving air. When the engine temps climb and the...
There is soooo many threads and information on this forum about the 80's fan clutch with theory and things to do to improve the performance. All you need to do to glean massive amounts of info is a search on "fan clutch" specifying 80 series...
Technically, the hotter it gets, the more closely it matches the engine speed. If you have any doubts, cooling issues, or belief it's not up to snuff, just get a blue model - available here I believe from Landtank. Both my 80s have these and we...
A fan takes incredible energy, so as Jon says it is always pushing SOME air. But it's designed to save power/fuel when not needed and one way to look at it versus the old days when the fans were belt driven and always at max flow/fuel sucking...
By far the biggest hurdle is the castings. My approach right now is to build out and test the system with machined parts. Then move forward with acquiring all the smaller pieces and then putting out a group buy with only the remainder castings to...
Thank you for the friendly reminder to load up on car parts while our dollars are worth something. We can look back in 20 years and say, "damn that was a good deal." :hillbilly:
my high school buddy smoked camels. Best cig on the market he said. Saw him last month for the first time in 35years, he's still smoking, emphysema and all.
