I'm battle scarred from the complete front end rebuild on the hundo last year. Ended up bending a few pickle forks and breaking a separator. Kroil and heat were the eventual victors, but only after losing a day.
I agree that a few solid...
I just did this and I think for the amount of work it's just easier to replace the whole LCA assembly. I had to cut off my frozen cam bolts as well. Very quick work with a diablo amped carbide blade.
I'm sure a tighter bend would make potentially more secure to the plastic base, but the base just pops out anyway and if you pull up on any of the mounts it's the plastic base that releases from the dash, not the Gamiviti from the base. I'm 45...
175k.
Did you have any struggle with getting the lower ball joint to release from the knuckle?
The LCA assemblies are only about $310 at ToyotaPartsDeal.
As a fellow northwesterner, mine are getting crusty but LBJ is still tight. I plan on a refresh this fall and was gonna do the easy button and just replace whole assembly.
I bent them in just slightly, nowhere near 90 degrees and it fits nice and snug. Love the utility, though I wish I would have gone with a low-glare finish.
If you're coming from any vehicle with electric assist or from a full-size domestic truck you're most likely used to (depending on your viewpoint) over-boosted steering. The 100/200 aren't stiff per se, it's just that you can't spin the wheel...
I'm due for a suspension refresh. Icon CDCV's have about 80k and have aren't really damping anymore and the SPC racing UCA's are due for new bushings. CDCV's are getting replaced with the same and have some new Nitro UCA's that I bought on sale...
I wanted a Nori Green OT+, she wanted a white OT+, we comprised and got a white OT+.
This will be used for Cruiser Outfitters measuring/test fitting and will eventually replace her GX460. She works from home and/or travels remotely so it likely...
I did just think of a couple more things. This detour only added about an hour to the radiator job. Also after doing all of this in a day, if I did have to change an alternator I'd seriously consider just pulling the radiator out. My LC is easier...
Thermocouple and data logger in place. Right now the TC is just floating between the shroud and the battery. I have a second channel which I might tape to the side of the battery furthest from the engine.
Possible but it's not as simple as output equals heat generated. There's a concept of load / power factor, meaning more heat is generated when an alternator is working hard. When it's working hard against a load it can't meet, voltage will also...
I've never heard of cleaning them. They're a wear part, just replace them. In fact this is a good reminder to me to add that to the preventative maintenance for this summer. The only downside is they can be a bear to get loose sometimes and...
Man, I feel ignorant. I run M1 75w-90 in all three. Do a fluid exchange every spring, so about every 15-20k. Been doing that for the last 80k miles and seems to be a happy truck.
Much debate over on BITOG regarding 75w in Tacoma without clear...
FWIW, I now only buy filters from Toyota dealers (usually toyotapartsdeal.com). There were a batch of counterfeit filters that made it into Amazon several years ago and I ended up having some of those on the shelf that then ended up in the garbage.
With this theory, wouldn't an smaller (overdrive) pulley aggravate the problem? If load related heat is the suspect, then wouldn't more output just create that much more heat?
From my understanding, this is done for space constraints or weight distribution (BMW) and is not related to heat. To the latter, somewhat ironic when you see drivers clearly 50 lbs over ideal weight that moving a batt to a different corner...
Out of curiosity, have you ran into limits with the OEM alternator? I've thought about this, but even with depleted house battery, at 30A charging load it's only three hours to full (via RedArc BCDC), something easily achievable in overlanding...
The ideal data point would be the internal battery temp. This is what Battleborn (and others) is using to regulate. So we're left, at best, with an external surface monitor. The IR cameras or guns are good for this, but only at a single point...
There was some discussion in the the 'what have you done this week' thread regarding the temperature impact to Li batteries mounted under the hood. I currently have an X2Power AGM in the Slee bracket. I mounted a little data logger to the...
