In Australia, those 1KD engines are everywhere. 10s of thousands of them sold in Prados, Hi Ace vans and so fourth. So I think it's fair to say they are definitely reliable. I looked into doing an engine swap with 1KD> 1KZ Prado some time ago...
Do you need to perform a compression test? If the radiators old, it's probably just done it's time and needs replacing, along with the rest of the cooling system components for good measure.
But to answer your question, see the attached pics...
I did this! Thank you, Dave! Hardest part was getting the old bulbs out of the twist sockets. Thought they might break. Altimeter is fairly static down here on the coast but the compass is nice to see!
Both 200 and 300Tdi motors. I have a love/hate relationship with LR trucks. Since coming over to the Yota world I’m not feeling any more hate.
As far as emissions it’s hit or miss depending on the testing station. If you tag it as a classic...
I haven’t touched it nor do I plan to. I arrived here after almost 30 years of Land Rovers. The 1KZ has a ton more pep and HP than the Rover diesel lumps.
It is getting late here. I will leave you with another bit of the game plan--a parts car I just picked up:
Can you say 'upper ball joint'?
@lostmind 's truck will mostly get trim from this vehicle. I really bought this to swipe the engine...
Hey wvalle
I'm chiming in here kinda late but have a look at my tent setup. Call me crazy but I've had this same tent on three KZJ's with just two Frontrunner gutter mount tower/crossbars with no issues at all.
(Active tests carried out..lol;))
Ohh mate, that was way trickier to make than I expected. First time TIG welding aluminum and it's a very different metal to work with than I'm used to. I'll give it a lite hit with a lubricated flap disk and see if I can improve it visually. But...
Got the Coastal Offroad armour installed and I'm super happy with it. These are the 90 series prototypes and the fit is excellent. As you can see I added some mud flaps to control the mud/rock slinging. There's supplied backup LED's yet to...
Hello,
I am back.
It wasn't the Spill Control Valve/Solenoid, I serviced while I am at it, it is working as it designed to.
It turns out I have serious diesel leak into the engine oil system.
Checked the oil dipstick, level was extremely high...
I totally agree with you Javelinadave. Go with OEM's. I'm going through a nightmare right now with NAPA axles :frown:. Got new ones in late '21 and returned them in '22 with cracked boots and now the second warranty set after 14 months are the...
I went down this path and it was a messy pain in the ass and did work out. If you get to the nic quick enough before the grease has come out everywhere and it's just a small hole/split, you can get away with cleaning the area around the nic and...
One of my first projects was to swap out my CVs. It was a much easier job than I thought. Start fresh and eliminate the worries of when will your CV fail.
I'm not sure how the EGR kit works. So it has a blanking plate at the rear of the exhaust manifold where the return pipe comes out of but everything else stays in place? Or that plate sits in somewhere where the return pipe comes back into the...
I do not

Nor does anyone that says it can be done it seems
I find it interesting all the aftermarket kits for the Prado are 99+...

I’ve been waiting for this so I can ditch my hitch mounted tire carrier that puts too much weight on the hitch and drags on departure.
Though...
