Given the news of this week, we felt a need to update our update. We hate to inundate your inbox like this, but the threat is real, and you need to know about it.Situation: For whatever reason (November election, perhaps?) the Washington, DC.., Wilderness Lobby has twisted their proverbial throttle to "WIDE OPEN." From Montana, we learn the Wilderness lobbyists feel "emboldened by election results" and are pushing the incredulously named "Forest Jobs and Recreation Act." That's Montana Senator Jon Tester's pitch to add an additional 600,000 acres to Montana's

Do the business folks, especially those in Moab, realize the business they will lose? This will kill Moab, not to mention put a bunch of folks out of work in already tough economy. This seems very short sighted on their part. What can I do to prevent this from happening?

Start by reaching out to the companies that you support and are listed. Read the full proposal. Arm yourself with facts.

well i have been repeating it on face book every day, the next step is to email all my friends, started that a couple days ago. i also have some people mad at me for posting this in another section, i only did that for those that do not venture to this section and so they can make their voice heard to the company's whose name's are on this letter.

I was at a 4 wheel event back in May in southern Utah and the southern utah wilderness alliance (suwa) follwed the event every step of the way. When we were off the trails for the night, suwa then went out and created trail obstructions, threw nails, and did other things to get back at the four wheelers. The funny thing was that BLM personnel were with us and were able to verify that the event did NO damage to the area we were in and the damage to the trails was created by suwa after we were off the trails.

suwa, instead of paying attention to us should have payed closer attention to the ATVers and non regulated trail users.

Not impressed with suwa at all, all they want is their way or no way.

i also learned on facebook that Camp Chef has ask to have their name removed from the letter!

but do they condone the petition and will they continue to contribute to anti ohv events in the future?
removing their name may be moot

I've revised how I will be activly posting on Facebook. I'm going after the inherent lack of context in the one page OIA document. Keep it up people. These companies need as much public input on this as possible. Several have already wavered in their support.

"Dear [Company],
I am writing to ask you to please reconsider your support for the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) petition to the President to create a Greater Canyonlands National Monument. The one page letter lacks any depth or the detailed information needed to form an educated opinion, for or against the creation of such a monument and potentially omits access for a major user group, OHV/ORV users. Until the OIA can produce a detailed proposal that outlines exactly how they would like to see the monument managed I would ask that you actively pursue the deletion your signature from the document. Thank you for your commitment to a balanced approach to protecting our public lands."
