Dude, i worked at a european car shop, actually i worked at a couple of them and we used this stuff religiously. i have personally seen VW tdi's come in huffing black and making a sick stuttering mess.. drive out after running a bottle of this stuff smooth as silk and clean. my boss swore by the stuff. incidentally he is also they guy that rebuilt bosch injection pumps in house, when his entire customer base had fuel pump leaking issues to do with the new low sulfur diesel. so i take it that he knows what he is talking about. this is total hearsay but lubro moly used to be called something else.. and apparently mercedes and vw dealers use this stuff in their shops on thier diesels. i used a bottle of it on my bj70- 3b and noticed a difference. its really good stuff, from what i could tell from using it on customers cars its mostly a diesel- like fluid with some cleaning additives. there was some talk about the injector overflow line going back into the can and flushing gunk out of the injector and into the high pressure pump. if that worries you, then find a different way to use this stuff, maybee drinking this stuff might be your answer if youre that anal. be inventive.
today i was talking to an engineer about the effects of gyroscopic precession on my Ipod' hdd bearings and what orientation i wear it on my body while i jog. it got incredibly intricate, but in the end.. we agreed the ipod just does its thing and it runs and when it breaks it wont matter how many times i caused the hard drive disks to precess out of thier rotation plane. similarly, toyota diesels are tough, and the gunk that was in the injectors wont make your fuel pump fail while your driving up everest 10 years later. Lubro moly= good stuff. dont worry. Blink.

Thanks for the feedback - my marine mechanic is from France and he did mention that it was very commonly used in Europe - He wants to basically run the engine on it till used up which should be nearly an hour running time at idle - I'd take his word on pretty much anything as he's got decades of experience...

I don't have any plans on running it through the cruiser but if guy's out there are having issues with fuel pump/injector issues this might be a product worth looking into.

I'll take some pics and note any improvements on the boats engine performance.

I used it on my Mercedes 300TD. I put both fuel lines directly in the bottle (feed and return) and ran the engine at various speeds until the bottle was used up. I didn't have any issues prior to using it and so didn'y really notice much of a diff. after. The fuel coming back into the can through the return line was very clean, indicative of a healthy injection system.

I would use it again- esp. if I had issues.

This looks really similar to Seafoaming a gas engine. I did that to my 95 Integra with 211,xxx and it smoked like crazy, idles a lot smoother after doing it.

dieseldan,

I see you're in BC too. I've got a diesel Toyota and have been looking for Lubro Moly (I think it might be called Liqui Moly elsewhere) for a while.

Where are you getting the Lubro Moly from?

Cheers,
Max

My mechanic mentioned he only knows of one marine mech. supply outfit in Richmond - I'll post up the info when I find out. I hadn't been able to source it locally either from searches.

your napa store can order it from altrom for you. altrom is a stocking supplier, as well as worldpac

Hey just bought and ran a can of that stuff. I got it from 4 Wheel Auto, and it was a piece of cake on my 2H.

My truck only has 160,000kms on it, but I thought it would be fun to try it anyways. I am getting about 20-40 more kms per tank, and it sounds/feels a lot smoother.

I would not hesitate to use it in any diesel. Up next is the Cummins!

can i fill the new fuel filter with Lubro Moly, and then run it though the fuel system that way?

great on Landcruisers...,,,and yes you can fill the filter with it...I did it in my Bj70

Seafoam woks a treat on diesel as well, as stated in numerous threads here. Some are quite detailked in how they used it and the results. You can get it at any NAPA store. I know Crushers was/is a great fan of it. BB, isn't his self imposed exile suppose to end as of Dec 31/07?

should be the same - this stuff seems to go by different names - diesel moly - lubro moly...

I just did the Lubro Moly treatment last night. I also dumped a full can of Sea Foam into the crankcase oil. I ran two cans of Diesel Purge through my 3B. I followed the general instructions on the VW TDI site. The stuff really is as great as many people are saying. I'm usually skeptical about additives or fluids that make claims to improve this or that. This stuff works like magic it seems.

The engine has 260k miles. I have no idea if the PO had ever tried the DP treatment. After running two cans through the engine I drove it 20 miles to work the rest of the Moly out of the fuel filter. Then I changed the oil and filter.

The most noticeable effect is that the engine starts right up with minimal smoke when cold with a smooth idle now. It was super cold-blooded before the DP treatment. I'd have to glow it three of four times and use the accelerator pedal to get it to start and idle before the treatment.

There's a place in Richmond sells it, south side of Cambie just west of Garden City. I ran a can through my HDJ, can't say I noticed much difference either way. But my injectors etc were fairly clean in the first place I think.

New results on my machine

Hey I just ran it through my Lull (zoom boom/telehandler) and it was amazing! It has a Cummis QSB4.5T and it used to smoke when it was idling and I floored the pedal, and now it runs totally clean at all RPMS. My machine just turned 4000 hours so its obviously had some buildup.

This stuff is great!

Over here I can get a can of 300 ml Liqui Moly "Super Diesel additive".

You simply dump it in the tank. On the can it states a long lasting effect for 2000 km.

Anyway, the cruiser get's it every 5000 km as does every other diesel I service.
Never have any problems with rough starts on colder days an rough running engine.

I used the Diesel Purge product when I aquired the merc, it was running rough and I was pre-heating several times before it fired on all cylinders. It worked very nicely and was worth the effort of a mornings wrenching.

I had a diesel woodshredder come in for service, 3 years old and they filled with dirty old red tractor diesel.
A can of 300 ml Super diesel additive in the tank and within several hours of service we had to put in another diesel pre-filter.
I was completely gunked up with sludge.
Since then haven't had any issues.

These Liqui or Lubro Moly products really do what they claim.
And they are certainly worth their money.

To bring an oooooooooooooold thread back to life just in case people are still having issues finding this good stuff, I took gamaman1's advice and called NAPA in Newton to order it for me, and they are able to bring it in for $13/can retail (less if you have an account). I ordered it at 0930h this morning, and it should be in the store by 1145h...so that's pretty good.

I think the place Jcolvin might be thinking of in Richmond is Hope Fung Auto on 5 Road? I saw online that they have it for $11.99/can.

Hope that helps someone out there.
