One of the initial goals was to send Alvin home with 'Duck a l'Orange, but the duck(s) didn't want to have anything to do with it.:D

The quail were a little more cooperative.

A good day

What an awesome day! When I got home Zoe wanted to see the birds. She held them and checked them out. She then wanted to help clean them, after the second one she was outta there. She said "they stink" and left.

We're going to cook them up for dinner tonite.:p

Because I'm a sissy (according to punk-ass Ross) I realized, when I got home, that in all the excitement, I didn't always put my shotgun into my shoulder. I have a nasty bruise on my bicep.

Can't wait to do it again John! Oh, I left my jacket in your 40.

I thought I was the only one that did that..;)

I'll keep your jacket for the next outing, unless you need it sooner..

Thanks for talking me into taking the day off:cheers:

thats great,,, i have been asked if i want to go over to Houston to train a bunch of guys or bring them here (work related) and i'm thinking i might have to go there and get in some chukar while i'm there.

Poor birdies, my ass!
I used to hunt quail with a single-shot pellet gun. It was more sporting than a shotgun! I would take 15-20 in a Sunday! The BBQ was rewarding!
You have to sneak pretty close to take a bird with an air rifle. You have to be within 30 feet. But the air gun is so quiet that the flock doesn't realize that they are being plinked until I have taken 3-4 of them. They would just keep pecking at seeds while I shot another one. I took most of them with clean head shots. They drop instantly. An air gun makes a sound like a fart, but shorter and a lot quieter. The pellet or bullet flies at about 1000 feet per second, but is lighter than a .22. It is a matter of accurate shooting. I usually used a scope. Head shots are preferable. Quail or Dove breast tastes really great when it is not filled with lead bird shot. The air pellet is the bullet of choice. You have to work to get enough to make a meal. I once did it regularly. I ate some quantity of dove and quail. It tastes like chicken. It BBQ's the same too.
