Can you swap in a steering wheel from an LX470 into the LC/LX450?

Has anyone done this?

I know it would just be a useless "bling" mod...but I am just curious if it will fit, or if the wood pattern matches?

Cody- I'm pretty sure the wood won't match, and you'll also have problems because of the airbags. There are aftermarket kits for this if you're into the BLING. Just ask LX_TREME- I'm sure he has some links for you.

Yeah, I don't want to snap on a plastic piece like the above ebay auction.

Do any of the half wood wheels from the Lexus models match? I'm not too concerned about the airbag issue, although I would have assumed the connections for the airbags would be identical.

I'm pretty sure you can do this. More than likely the airbag will have an identical connector. I would be really surprised if Toyota changes the mounting and the airbag clip.

Now if the wood matches or not, I have no idea.

Im not sure but when ever i drive the lx470 the wheel feels bigger? I may be wrong since the whole truck feels bigger but something to look into as well. Honestly i thought about this mod as well, however im not sure i ike it as the wood scars eaisliy so if you wear a wedding band ect... it scraches the hell out of it, also my hads get sweaty if holding onto the wood. cool idea though Id like to see some progress on this idea.

Bear, is that the same for the 98-99 100's?
I know the newer LX470's have a different design but are the 98 wheels the same as 97?

Darwood, do you happen to have a pic of the metal center frame of the 80 steering wheel? the part that is usually hidden by the airbag

I don't think I do. There might be one from Death Valley last year in someones pics from when I retightened Alvaro's steering wheel nut.

I'd also like to reitterate that the airbag for the LX470 wheel would have to be used due to the different design. This makes this an expensive mod, but I thought this was assumed.

And FYI the new LX470 steering wheel cost $1949.00 and plus airbag $802.00 (No taxes yet), so whos da Mr Pimp :grinpimp:

I see LX_TREME found the cost.

So the wheel costs more than the airbag? That's weird.

oh sorry, missed that part-:whoops:

well, i'll keep my eyes peeled for a 97-specific wheel...

I like that american stitching one except going w/o a steering wheel for a few weeks...

Well I could be wrong. I really haven't been paying attention to the differences in Toyota steering wheels lately. One thing though is for sure, if the spokes are different the bag will need to be different. It's really one of those try and see sort of things.

I'd just want to bring this up again. I'm pretty sure a 99-02 lx470 wheel is the same as the 95-97 LC/LX. It looks like in 03 when they changed the dash gauges etc. they also changed the wheel.

However, can anyone check a 99-02 lx470 wheel next to a 95-97 wheel and or see if the wood on a lx450 is the same match as a lx470.

Many of the Toyota airbag wheels are interchangable between vehicles. There are early single stage, and later dual stage... no idea what year they changed, but you can't run a single in dual and vice versa. There are tons on ebay and car-part.com. Before my 6 speed switch, I always thought it would be neat to hook up the push botton shift controls.

I know the LS400 wheel will swap into an 80 but I'm trying to figure out if the gray leather matches. Anyone know the answer to this?
