G'day all,

I cam across the below for installing an oil temp transmitter, does the pressure transmitter too which will save me some Tees and hoses.

Anyone used something like this ? Goes inbetween the filter and filter mount.

Have to find myself one for the cruiser if it's any good, but prices range from 20 to 50 dollar what I've seen

I am not sure if I would trust such a thing on a pressurized part of my oil system. Assuming you already have an oil pressure gauge and only want to add an oil temp, is there a possibilty to add a temp sensor in the oil pan?
cheers

Oil pan does not have anything for that, needs to be fabricated.

There must be more people with an oil temp sender somewhere ??

I had one of these "sandwich" plates on my petrol 80 a while back. It worked ok, but i found it to be bulky. It did seal well but it just felt like quick fix to me. I'd like an oil-temp gauge too, but next time i'm going to do it properly and tap a fitting into the sump. Thats my 0.2c! :p

hm, might try and find myself a sump at the wreckers to play with then....

Well, if somehting is about to go wrong the oil temp will start to climb and it's good to know that it's on the rise.

It's also that the EMS2 has all these functions and I might as well hook them all up :)

I don't think you really need a oil temp gauge at least in my case .. when my HDJ80 was Auto I had a trans temp gauge .. so right now I'm using it to see my engine oil temp .. ( max that I've seen down here in a heavy traffic hot day was around 130 - 140°F )

IMOP an oil press it's much more important .. and I take from the factory sender in y 1HD-T to my aftermarket sender .. ( never trust in the factory gauge anycase )

Might put it in the Auto sump then for temp.... Then I'll have

voltage
coolant low level alarm
coolant temp
oil presure
trans oil temp
EGT

should be more then enough :)

Thanks.

Installed the coolant temp sensor today (hose adapter in top coolant hose) and the coolant leak sensor (just a wire going in at the connection to the rad) and all works perfect. Temp hovers around 80 - 85 deg C which seems fine to me. Leak sensor is really good, alarmed when there was no water, as soon as I filled it back up, alarm disappeared so it's working.

I might mod the sensor; rad tank and hose connector is plastic on the cruiser so I can easily drill a little hole in the top of the hose tail, put an M4 bolt in there that sticks in halfway and seal it with rubber grommets and connect the wire nice and tidy to that. Might have a go at that over the weekend.

Pics will follow.

Finally fitted the last sender : transmission oil temp. I bought a new union that had a VDO sender tapped in to it and installed it today, all good, but had to take out the front driveshaft to make some room to work and had to clean 18 years of goo before I could cleanly remove the old union. See below for the union (I got the union only)

I have now active on the Madman gauge :

Voltage incl. alarms
Coolant loss alarm
Coolant temperature incl. alarms
Oil pressure incl. alarm
Trans oil temperature incl. alarm
EGT incl. alarm

I'm happy as can be with this setup...

Now have to get rid of a squeeky noise that's new.. not the belts (they're tight and not slipping) but I suspect bearings of the idler pulley are up for replacement.
