We just bought a BJ70 and really like it. That being said the wife wants it improved. The idea is to build a capable wheeler off and on the road. So I need to maintain the best of both worlds.

Here is the rig

So here lies the rub, conundrum, and or crazyness.

What to do? What to use?

Phase one: drivetrain

Here is what I have at my disposal to use.

-Complete FZJ80 Drivetrain (including electric lockers)

-Complete FJ60 SOA axles with hysteer

-OME lift

What would you do?

turbo with 60 axles.. or 80 axles and ome. I always thought a 1fzfe 70 would be bitchin but I'd hate to ruin the diesel aspect.

I would keep 3B and turbo it. Then install FZJ80 locking axles so you would save money on lockers. The stock 4.1 ratio of the 80 series axles should work fine with 33" tires. Wiring up the lockers might be a small challenge.

How big a tire do you want to run?

The 80 axles are pretty wide aren't they? Wiring the lockers are a breeze. I have done several.

I say a big "NO" on using the 80 axles. The birfields are the largest easily available ones but the knuckles are the problem. The "low steer" set up is difficult to overcome and even with Slee's use of the RHD steering arm and modifying the upper ABS hole it just ends up looking a bit booty-fab. Nice cnc'd booty-fab but compare that to a nice 4x4Labs or Marlin hi-steer set up on the 60 axles. If you go with the 60 axles the Longfields and chromo axle shafts, etc are all going to hold up to that engine and vehicle weight. Plus I think the e-lockers are overrated and are possibly inherently weaker than using ARB's and their carrier.

Would 80 axles using it's spring perches and links elminate the booty fab?

Sell the 80 stuff ,do a 2-3 lift with 33s ,fit lockers and turbo it.

IMO it will outperform 99.9% of all drivers without massive tyres.

I don't have those laying around. I have everything in stock that I listed

because you are located in Washington state and close to JDM parts, sell your parts and purchase a set of cable lockers from G&S or someone.

however, still sounds like you a have great plan...

Yeah, they are probably about 4-5" longer. Scratch the 80 series axles. I was just thinking from a cost perspective... lockers and gearing.

turbo and spring it over with 60 axles like lowenbrau
Find a ff rear throw the locker in sell the front for another rear and put that in the front.

either way IMHO you'll want more than ome for 35-37's

here's another
