F carb. question: "throttle positioner"? (1 Viewer)

While poking around under the hood, I noticed that one of the carburetor
linkages was not connected. A quick look at the FSM revealed that the
screw holding the "throttle positioner" mechanism to the carb was missing.
(Not the adjusting screw, but the screw that attaches the lever arm
to the carb).
It runs well, though, and for all I know that screw has been missing for
years. So, a few questions:
-What does the "throttle positioner" do, and do I need it?
-SOR does not list that screw. I'll try the dealer, but if they don't
have it, any suggestions as to who would?

The screw that holds that 'lever arm' as you described it should be of the same dimensions as the one that holds your accelerator pump arm to the air horn. Take it off the pump arm and double check it. Note: the head on the accel pump arm bolt is LARGER than the one for the TP link, so be VERY CAREFUL to check that it does not interfere with any other linkage in the area.

If it works, you should be able to order one of those from your local dealer.

Thanks Mark. Any opinions as to whether I need it, given that it seems
to run fine without it? What does it do?

If it passes smog testing, then just leave the screw, link rod and arm off the carb.

It is supposed to hold the throttle open on lift throttle deceleration conditions.
But when I am coming down a steep hill in a drum brake Cruiser, I want the throttle CLOSED when I tell it to close. The brakes need all the help they can get, and having the engine trying to keep the truck rolling isn't appreciated.
 
No s*** Jim,

I hate the little blip I get in my FJ-60 when it decides it needs to stay revved up for that reason. Making my 40 shut down, right now is a very good thing.
