Or ask pretty much any 80 series owner that has done the underdrive gear swap, lucky enough I already done it on my 100 a few years ago. Picture is showing the Domiworks shaft next to my factory 100 series shaft View attachment 4070182
How much did you end up paying for the bmw adapter? I saw some folks getting hit with a little hefty tariff buying direct from domiworks

So I ordered it from DriftHQ, was way cheaper than order from Domiworks directly, but you have to wait a month or more because I believe they get their orders in bulk once every other month or so and some how avoid tariffs. Still waiting on the UZ adapter as I ordered it from another online retailer that was cheaper, but same thing, been almost a month.

@TrailBornRunner have you noticed any gear whine with the underdrive kit? You're on bigger tires an I am. I have thought about getting an underdrive kit as I can just get the gearset for the 80 series case I got vice the more expensive shaft for my 100 case.

I believe I should be able to swap my CDL actuator and my current VSS in the transfer case and run them in the early 80 HF2A. Also thinking I might follow suit and get an N63/S63 8hp since I should have less to worry about in the transmission tunnel over the hemi 8hp. There's a few of both local to me now that I know where to look

@Papa Wickey the gear whine is definitely noticeable, doesn't bother me much as the tires do make a lot of noise anyway. I went with the N63 because it's readily available and cheap on ebay as well as adapter availability, they're also practically identical in size to the A343F. Should be pulling my 100 into the shop in the next couple weeks to start this swap in prep for Cruise Moab

Alright, I think I'll go with the N63 trans then, the stuff I've heard about the starter on the hemi has made me a little apprehensive. Guess I'll pick one up once I get my refund and run up to oceanside to get it. I am still probably gonna be a while on doing this though cause I'm still gonna need to save up for the adapters and TCU.

My main issue is I don't have much for funds. I'm trying to sell off some stuff that I don't use/need to get some more capital for this project but I don't know how far I'll be able to get. I want to pick up a trans soon so I can make it more of an eventuality as I see it sitting in my garage but even then I don't have all the money needed to get the adapters and TCU.

That being said I still have this as my #2 priority for my truck behind replacing wear items. I'd rather finish out trying to get this done over starting to add armor because I feel like the trans will add a lot of enjoyment. Just being able to drive more and getting slightly better mileage while not hunting between 3-4th when I try to get out of town. I'm doing my best to document everything though so maybe I can post stuff to youtube for some extra funds

@Papa Wickey yeah, this ain't a cheap upgrade for a vehicle like a 100, took almost a year to convince myself it's worth it, what sold me is 1st gear will be doubled that of stock, so essentially adding like a doubler inside the trans instead of adding a blackbox strecthing the tcase into the gas tank. Been waiting for parts to go on sale and watching the used market as well trying to get stuff cheap, so far in it $5500. I'll add I went with the Maxxecu for possible future piggyback integration when I eventually boost the 2uz, and price (on sale was $1150 vs $2500 of the turbolamik)

Best case scenario I can get this done this year. I have been hunting around on ebay and struggling to find decent condition transmissions. I found some local low mile 75s but they're asking 1200 for them and that also would limit me to only turbolamik. I'm not against it but the cost is up there for sure. Ideally I'd like a trans that I don't need to worry about rebuilding. A pay bump would be real neat but I'm not gonna find out if I'm eligible this year until like april/may.

Hey guys, hopping in to make sure I have this straight.

Sounds like the setup is a BMW 8HP70/75 from N63 with a 2UZ adapter: Toyota 1UZ/2UZ/3UZ 8HP 70/75 N63 Adapter Kit

Then a transfer case adapter for the HF2A/HF2AV to the 8HP AWD, noting that will also need an 80 series input: Toyota HF2AV Transfer Case Adapter kit - BMW 8HP AWD

Run a separate transmission control unit (TCU) like TurboLamik analog: TCU TurboLamik FULL KIT

Then misc stuff like a shorter driveshaft, crossmember/mount, cooler + lines, gear shifter, tap into ECU inputs etc.

The issue on earlier models is a non-flashable ECU...Thinking an emulator will work here:

@David310 Yeah, pretty much. I don't think you'll have to shorten a driveshaft, measured my N63 trans and with the Domiworks adapters, I believe it comes out to a 1/4" longer than the A343F. And I think that emulator is more for vvti engines, but we'll see, people have been tricking the early ecus for manual swaps for a long time with just some tricky wiring and resistors.

I’m in! Have some parts to install on the LX first (LRA fuel tank, HID headlights, sound system) but will start accumulating parts as well. Seems like this is a collective effort but much rather go this route than to regear with 4.88 for 35s since then you are still stuck with a 4 speed.

The ATEMU may work but I'm thinking of trying the resistor route first. I believe I will take the capital I have now and try to pick up a trans and transfer case adapter so I can get the input axle and do a refresh on the 80 series case I got. The transfer case adapters for both dodge and bmw say that they have some provision to mount with the crossmember but that may just be for the 80 series. I'm gonna be trying to post some youtube videos in here but I am not sure on how long it'll take me to get the rest of the main pieces.

Hell yeah now this is where it starts to get interesting.
Spent a little more than I would have liked but hey, trans has 43k miles on it

My OCD is really kicking in looking at those pics. Transmission rubbing against the back of the seat and no plastic or cardboard on top of the light colored carpet. 😬
😂😂😂

I had a ZF transmission in a Land Rover. It was one of the few components that never leaked or gave any issues.
