Before Cruisers........

I got my first Cruiser in 1997 and have pretty nicely documented all the Cruisers that have come and gone over the past 14 years on Mud and on my website.

Greg's 1985 Xtra Cab really dug up the old memories I have of my old Xtra Cab so I scanned a couple of pictures in today.

My first vehicle was a 1984 Toyota 4x4 Xtra Cab. I pretty much ruined it for 3 years in the pearl river swamp.

It had open diffs and a 6" suspension lift. Pictured is the last set of tires it had....some 34" Swampers. At one point it had "Q" buckshots.

It was a mud machine and held up like a champ. It was RAGGED when I sold it for college with only 80,000 miles on it but all I ever did was replace brakes and a clutch.

great thread idea nolan.....what the heck is the face in the back window?!! creepy

I spent about 10 months in an MR2....it was my mother's idea. A bad one. I got 4 speeding tickets in as many months and nearly lost my license.

I found someone that wanted it badly and sold it for just a tiny loss and then got this 1987 Turbo 4Runner. I had 32x11.50 Wild Country MTs on it and a Warn Combo kit.

My dad sold insurance to a BIG Toyota dealer back in the day and this was the legal way to say thank you for the business.

I kept this one for 2 years. Sold it to a friend and he still has it. 300K miles last I checked.

I thought the Ernest thing was so funny back then......also the rear facing lights. I used to nail people with bright lights on me. Again....I thought it was funny.

How about the color matched rims to the stripes? Check out the small block of wood I has as a spacer over the fenders and the "roll" bar.

This was my last 4 runner. 1989 V6. This thing was a dog with fleas. Terrible power and mileage when I installed the 32's.

I kept it until I went to Germany in 1991. My last "free" vehicle. I had some good ones while it lasted.

One clean shot...one "mudding:

In Germany I had a sweet 5 series BMW. It was junk but it would do about 120 mph and that is all that mattered.

I got home to do a year of grad school in Washington DC. I picked up this gym off a used car lot where no one spoke english.

Amazingly, it was in perfect shape and was a superb vehicle.

If you notice, it is a much shorter wheelbase than the normal 2 door Trooper. This thing was really awesome but when I got orders to go to Texas, the Trooper with no A/C had to go. I don't even remember who I sold it to.

Love this style Trooper. I would rock the hell out of one if I could find another.

This was my ultimate used car score ever. I found this on the lot in DC...it was just traded in and the used car manager had no idea what it was.

It was a 1990 model, fully loaded with only 12,000 miles on it. Near perfect.

I think it was 1994 when I got it.

Anyway, he had it listed for $8000. I bought it and was in the sales office and had a breathless VW weirdo offer me $12,000 for it right in front of the salesperson.

We all made it though the encounter and I took it to TX and then to Louisiana.

It was so unbelievably cool and actually drive and handled nicely.

Problems....the a/c was in the back of the van. It blew VERY cold and would almost freeze you in July. Problem was, if froze the BACK of your head while you were getting roasted through the windshield by the sun with no air blowing on you.

Second, you can't camp much in the south without an a/c. It was just too hot to enjoy much.

I ended up selling it for $16,000 with 25,000 miles on it.

I wish I still had it.

This thread will be 15 pages of all of nolen's past rigs. Which I would love to see .

I am boring when it comes to car ownership

My 1 st vehicle I bought was a Chevy beretta.
Then I got an eagle talon.
Then I traded it in for the LX450..

I still have my first 4wd..

Wait, I found this one....I had 2 or these. I thought they were so damn cool until I tried to resell them. No one wanted a 2 door. I ended up unloading the second one on a friend.

I had the coolest hide-away winch in the stock bumper....it would get packed with mud though.

Very cool thread....

Not many pictures due to Katrina but I have a long list...

Listing first to last.

87 2wd Toyota mini - lowered with a system. that's how I rolled.

88 Honda 2 door accord

66 Mustang convertible - her name was Ruby - sold it and owner called me after Katrina to tell me it made it through the storm..

94 Nissan Pathfinder - Patty - 2wd

66 Alfa Romeo Duetto

79 Lancia Beta Coupe

56 Caddy Coupe Deville - Maybelline - project that never ran.

84 Porsche 911 Carrera - Priscilla - first year of 3.2 it was sent back over to germany (orginal owner was in the service) and had a lot of engine upgrades by far the best car I owned and great driver. New Orleans streets are not kind to a sports car. see the front fiberglass bumper....it was ripped off 3 times by man hole covers.

88 Range Rover Classic - Rowdy - an intoxicated buy off of eBay. It was a very clean truck but stupid slow v8. Sold to a buddy.

01 BMW 330i vert..- a piece of warranty work month after month....never will own another BMW.

88 Toyota Camry aka Drunk Camry - it was the going out car. If you drank too much you just left it and didn't worry about it and came back the next day to get it.

05 VW GTI - Vincent - great car but fell in love with cruisers.......the end.

I will try to find a few more pictures.

Nolan, I know the CLC "he ain't a member" police may delete my reply to your very cool thread, but just for giggles, here are a couple of my favorite old whips. . .

You wait till DNP weighs in.

I've had a metric crap load with most of them being crap. A few of my favorites were

'65 Chevy 2wd 1/2 ton step side. Worn out straight six with 3 on the tree.

'67 Mustang Sport Sprint. Factory air car with a warmed over 289. This is the car that Dad and I did everything to but paint. Dad bought it for me when I was 13 and we went at it for 2 years to get it ready for my 15 y/o ass to tear it up.

'78 CJ-7. 304 with quadratrac. Good for nothing but riding around town and getting 8mpg's.

2 SHO's. One was stupid fast by early 90's standards but couldn't keep up with any stock V6 import of today.

1978 Bronco 400m block. I had extra cash in college and bought this big dumb animal.

The other 30+ aren't worth bringing up.

Now, DNP has the floor.

1979 DooDoo Brown Toyota Celica. Hatchback with louver. YUM! Had a jammin Proton stereo with some great speakers. Good car till it found a ditch and I flipped it.

1982 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 Electric Blue. Great fast fun car. Had big time issues with mass air flow sensors. Went thru three of them. If that car could write, it would have been a good book. Probably should have either became a daddy in that car or died in it. "You are dumb, so dumb..."

1986 BMW 325ES silver. It's funny I remember this car having no top end. It would just go and go. Very good handling and would pop your ears when you closed the doors. I looked up the specs earlier, it had 121 hp. LOL. I rolled up some silly miles on it and got nervous about repairs and dumped it. Wish I would have kept it. Ran 20560-14 Bridgestones.

1989 Nissan Maxima SE, grey, solid worry free car. Bought it literally off the show room floor. Debbie took it when we got married. Brought Michaela home in it. The only rear problem with those cars were the window motors. Replaced every one of them.

1979 Chevy K5. Blue and tan. I took this from my Dad when Deb got the Max. It was parked up at B Lake where Dad had a fish camp. Dear God what a gas guzzler. It was a great truck. Dad picked out the colors. Looked like a pair of Dickey Jeans going down 49.

1992 Ford F150. Maroon. Got that for work and because even in 1992 that Blazer cost a ton to fill up.

1995 Volvo 850 GTS wagon for Debbie. Maroon. I made her get the wagon. Thought new moms were suppose to get a wagon....Best seats of any car I have ever owned.

1994 Toyota FJZ80 "Bessie" The store got the F150, I got what I wanted.

1998 Volvo S70 T5 Blue, Debbie didn't really do wagons.

2000 VW Passat V6 Green, Why, Why, Why....

2002 Chevrolet Suburban. Maroon. How bad do you want out of the VW. THAT BAD.

2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe, silver. Because I could and I hadn't found Cottonland and IH8MUD yet. This is the only car I had that made me think I didn't need a 911. I made money on that car. Which for me is astounding. Girl just had to have it and her granddaddy could afford it.

2005 Chevrolet Suburban 4x4. Good stuff there. Just not good enough to tow a 40.

1976 FJ40. My Ebay truck. Didn't tell Debbie that I got it till I won it.

2006 Honda Civic. Debbie you drive this. That didn't last long. I am a dumb ass...

That gets me to the present.
2003 Ford Excursion. It fits the bill and takes several to fill it up.

2006 Mercedes E320 CDI. When I started to talking with Jack Torrence and Murrah's Daddy in law about theirs, I just started searching for a good one. Power like the Infiniti and sound like the BMW. We will see if it holds up like the Maxima. Talked Debbie into it and so far we havent looked at anything else.
Never been as happy with our daily drivers as we are right now.
