I'd like to install a york compressor for onboard air power, but need help identifying the correct compressor at the salvage yard and then some good resources for doing the install. What make and model cars have york compressors? Thanks!

Older model Fords had yorks. I think Volvo's had them also. Do a quick search and you will find a few installs.

Read the links in tech, one states what year/make vehicles have them.

Don't be afraid of an old one, both of mine are older than my cruiser and work fine.

Download the York Service manual, it explains the model #'s so you know what you're getting and what you want.

You can buy a rebuilt york from Napa for $100

I got both my yorks for free from friends, no trips to salvage yard necessary. :D

Anyone have good pics of mounted Yorks???

I have a couple sitting here waiting to go in my Cruiser, but I havn't been too satisfied with any of the mounting setups I have seen...

Anyone have any luck using the chevy A6 compressor (the loaf of bread one)? They are a heavy 6 cylinder unit that has somewhat an oil reservoir.

Chevy engine guys would have an easy time mounting those on a V8.

I know a member of our club used that style on his 350... it was actually set up as a working AC unit on his FJ40... but he decided it would be better used as a compressor. He got all his parts @ OnboardAir... seems really happy with the setup.. has the seperator and all...

Good luck on the york install, here is a picture of mine. Onboadrdair.com is a great resource although you can obtain most of the parts from other sources for much less.

I found my 210 on a Jeep Wagoneer (80ish), and another off a Ford F150 2wd. I made the mistake of using cheepy airline and had a blow out the first day. The heat of the engine broke down the airline.

The only rubbing I've gotten so far was the air intake filter for the York, thus I turned it down.
It's a separate filter, if I didn't have the PCV vented into the air cleaner I could have drawn the York air from that spot, or placed another 'tube' on the bottom of the air filter housing to get air from a point past the filter.

It is tight, I had to modify the top tray of the dual battery setup, so it would clear the alternator, and it's very tight with the distributor, too. It's also tight at the headlight, which made it hard to wire in the relays, etc.

You know, when I bought it, it was smog-free and easy to access. Then I had to buy everything to smog it, and cluttered up the engine compartment. So I figgered', when it's 30 years old and doesn't need to be smogged, then I'll strip it all out and make the engine compartment clean. Somewhere in there I decided I needed a York, and TBI, and two batteries, and relays, and other stuff, and it's as cluttered as it ever was!
