I just bought a 71 FJ55... specifically the one from this post:

The dash looks like:

I'm curious if this was stock. Also, is it a veiner, wood "colored" plastic, or chunk of wood?

Getting hyped up on a "good" solid replacement to the Tacoma:doh: Okay, only a good replacement to a cruiser junky:lol:

Memorex. Not a fan of wood there, but it looks like a nice job of it.

The 55 didnt come with a wood dash. It was the first real Stationwagon that served a dual purpose so the interior was kept as spartan as Toyota could to keep costs down and also give some sorta creature comforts to families. It was still used in military and industry around the world. I prefer the Toyota HD Clutch kits as they were the ones used for military and industrial use. My last kit I bought at Toyota wasn't any more money then the standard kit.

Anyway wood dashes are custom or they are homemade to replace the heat wrapped stock dash panels.

Nicely done, if you like a wood dash but definitely NOT stock.

did those gauge come from the 71? neither of those are 71 vintage gauges, both are later, speedo is late 76 or later, and the other cluster looks like 78 or later.

the metal rings around the gauges arent chrome. they are actually hidden by the stock dash pad, and are just zinc plated. PS on the speedo one, there are three very small flat head screws holding the ring on the metal housing.

But I'm still tempted by the Haneline "three in one" ones I've seen:doh: But the final budget will determine that.[/quote]

I installed the Haneline three in one into the factory dashpad

I've been considering going aftermarket since some (most) of my gauges don't work, seeing that setup of yours is quickly giving me something else to consider. Please share details of the install if you can.

Hanaline in Factory Dashpad

I used a razor knife and trimed the dashpad down to the metal ring that just below the dashpad. The metal ring limits how much of the circle you can cut and also limits how far in the gauge sit. Also trim from the backside of the dashpad not the front.
In the photo below you can see the bottom edge of the gauge sticks out a bit. Lance at IPOR fab the brackets to secure them.
