yah, when is the best time to arrive at the cabin?

guys, i am looking forward to the weekend and wheeling with you all.
i have a spare seat if someone wants it.
cheers

Okay so I have a little more time right now that I thought.

These are just some FYIs for those who were not on the Winter Run.

Cell reception in the area is bad at best - do not expect to have coverage. That being said if you want the number at the cabin let me know and I will PM it to you.

Not sure exactly how many guys/ girls are going to be staying the night(s) but keep in mind there is limited bed space so pack accordingly (please bring your own sleeping gear e.g. sleeping bag, pillow, teddy bear etc.)

There is running water (hopefully.... long story for the campfire) - but not drinkable. Soooo bring up what you think you might drink.

Speaking of drinks - if you are a beer drinker we try and encourage cans up there for the glass factor. Parry Sound area by nature has a lot of rocks and as we all know glass and rocks don't mix all that well. If you have already bought bottles not a big deal - but if you haven't cans please.

As mentioned before there is an outhouse for the boys and if there are any ladies they are welcome to use the somewhat more civilized composting toilet inside.

Fridge space will be limited with the size of the crew that is coming up so coolers are a good idea (especially for beer).

There is a BBQ.

On the topic of frige and food remember you will not drive by a proper grocery store (small general store $$$ in Orrville beer, canned goods, chips etc.) So it would be a good idea to stock up before heading up.

Fuel is also at a premium once off the 400. As suggested before might be best to fill up at the last option before HWY 518 - I think the exit is called Seguin Trail Rd. There really isn't naything but a Petro Can, Tim's, Licks. Yes they have diesel - I think I am the only gasser though.

If we are planning on sitting around the fire at night (bugs have been HELLA BAD but usually die off at night) might want to throw in a camp chair - not sure how many seats we have up there.

I think that is about it - sorry for the long post and some of it might be repeated but wasn't sure who all got the info before.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to post up or PM me.

I am planning on heading up on Friday at some point (likely early but exact time to be determined - still waiting to hear is the missus will be joining us). I will for sure be there by early afternoon. Regardless, if guys are interested we could do the short trail to the Waterfowl Reserve on Friday afternoon/ night as a shake down run - just a thought. I guess it will depend on what time people are planning on getting there.

Wayne can I ride shot gun for the longer run on Sat? Want to try the rig out on the Friday/ shorter trail. My truck that is - it has been having a few fits and spurts I think it is moisture related but haven't had a ton of time to tear into things with trying to get the cabin ready for the weekend.

j.

p.s. Is Cruiser coming? He is more than welcome.

i am taking friday off so if you want to join up at that gas station like we did in Nov i am into that. i can help you set up and get organized.
bugs are bad... good thing i bought a bug face shield and that tells me that the hard top is the one i will be wheeling.

let me know if you want me to find anything ASAP and i will do my best...

of course you can ride shotgun and drive if you want.

i "think" he is coming, that 13 hour run last time was pretty hard on him towards the end but you could see he had a lot of fun.

i will be borowing dad's little trailer to haul the tires this time. the weeble-wobble of the COG did not make me feel comfortable last time.

cheers

Yeah, I think it is a tune up related issue (wires, cap, rotor etc. - I am going to look tonight - in the dark - for arcing (sp?). With my course over and school winding down I will have more time to give it a proper look, but thanks for the offer. Excuses I know but hey sometimes the truth is what it is. Plus my "construction/ materials" budget has been somewhat stretched with the advent of the good weather and better access to the cabin.

Bug net are going to be a good idea! Funny I mentioned to my wife that I should tell Wayne to bring the hardtop if he was even thinking of the rag top (because the weather is supposed to be nice!) on account of the bugs.

Will let you know about Friday. Meeting up early even if it is at the cabin would be great.

Deals have the bug net 1/2 body and just head for dirt cheap...

You may want to think about bringing the topless truck. When you stop and open the doors the bugs get in and the top and doors keep them in. When you stop topless yes the bugs are around you, but as soon as you get moving the air flow gets rid of them. I know the last few times I wheeled the 40 I had less issues with the bugs and watched the guys in the 60's constantly try to get the bugs out of the truck.
Just food for thought.
Dave

the hard top is coming since i am not sure the amount of body damage that might occur pulling/being pulled through some of the obstacles we MIGHT encounter.

IF i win the loto tonight then i might turn the red PZJ70 rag into a wheeling rig... if not then it remains a beach truck.

Hey guys - got the 60 stuffed with... stuff!! Good thing I got the OME heavies in the back - 90L Diesel, 105L veggie + 115L veggie!!! Got the "bed" setup this time - with an air matress & storage tubs...- going to sleep MUCH better.

The plan for Mike & I is to leave from work around noon - Google puts it at just over 5 hours to get there, so hopefully we will be there around dinner time - we'll likely make a few quick stops along the way. (I'll be sure not to feed the Moose any Oreo Cakesters this time to skip some un-wanted pit stops...)

I WISH IT WAS THURSDAY NIGHT!!!!

This is our route map if anyone is along the way and wants to join in...

Looks great Bruce - complete with a U turn at the end!

Speaking of moose - keep your eyes peeled in the 518 there have been lots of moose on the road lately. Likely they have been chased out by the bugs - they are not super willing to get off the road in a hurry either. One stared us down for about 15 mins last weekend he was in the middle of the road and I think the Accord would have lost that battle in a big way.

Can't wait to smell the fries cookin' on the trail.

Sorry for not posting this earlier, but I just found out in a conversation today....

If you guys are going up this weekend the 12th, 13th and 14th, you do know it's "RoadKill" weekend in Ardbeg...where I'm told 200 jeeps could be on the trails up there...

Just putting it out there, I haven't confirmed that, but thought you should know....

good thing we are not going to Ardbeg although i have no problem putting my truck up against a jeep.

but thanks for the heads up,

Since the missus isn't coming this weekend I am likely going to head up tonight (Thurs) after my Ultimate Frisbee game - we finish around 9pm so I will just hop in the truck and continue North. Soooo, I will be there plenty early tomorrow meaning you can come up whenever you please and the door will be open.

but thanks for the heads up,

I know you have no problem with that, but I also know you wouldn't be happy with 200 jeeps stuck on the trails in your way : )

They will be up that way supposedly, Jus' sayin'

have a great weekend...

i am thinking if we are capable of a 13 hr straight run:
a) we will have little blood left in us
b) we will have had LOTS of fun
c) the gassers best bring extra fuel
d) i am going to want to sleep well that night

Mike, i understand what you were saying and appreciate the heads up. i wish your buddy was able to join us but such is life.
have fun doing what ever you end up doing this weekend, wish you could have attended this one.

cheers
