Would you prefer a PHEV? (1 Viewer)

Figured this would be an interesting discussion. Assuming Toyota could have used a Li-ion pack in the J250, providing 40 mi of EV range like the RAV4 Prime, would this be preferred?
Yes, I am hoping this will become available at some point in the near future. It would be a nice MPG improvement over our current V8 4Runner, especially around town.

Yes. I own a Prius Prime PHEV and a Wrangler Rubicon PHEV. Both are pretty incredible, and for the Jeep in particular, I use very little gas.

Frankly, it’s wild to be driving a lifted Rubicon on 37s around town and never use gas. Most of my trips are sub 10 miles and I have a level 2 charger. Often I will charge it back up at lunch. Even with 37s, lift, winch, etc. I’m still seeing over 20 miles on EV only.

For short trips-which is a lot of the suburban lifestyle-PHEVs are the best of everything, EV most of the time power and range when you want to do a longer trip

Side note-my use case makes an argument for PHEVs being the best environmental solution for many people. Smaller batteries mean less material, while rarely using ICE mode means less pollution.

Your use case, with PHEVs, is a very efficient use of globally limited transportation battery capacity. Lots of GHG (and other) pollution reduction per unit of deployed battery capacity.

PHEV is my favorite drivetrain. I hope manufacturers head that way until EV charging infrastructure is built out.
