Would you buy a 200 with 150k miles on it for $25k? (1 Viewer)

Not a bad price and seems like a good truck on the surface. The mileage is no issue at all. Bought mine at 179k miles and I actually trust it more than my wife's '13 with 43k miles due to some recent maintenance anomalies. I would just be a little wary of this particular seller. I've see several LC/LX vehicles in that exact driveway for sale. Nothing wrong with buying and selling (I do it more than the avg person), but I think the seller is more on the dealer side than the individual seller side. If you know that, and are cool with it, carry on.

I found the replaced water pump, but no sign of radiator or starter.

With the mileage and especially the age of that cruiser, it eould be very strange if the radiator hadn’t failed via the crack that forms along the edge of the small, flat, rectangular on the top/center of the main radiator tank.

See here for classic failure indicators:

I just asked him about this and he says he buys them at auction and then sells them.

I wouldn't say VERY strange. I think that its more of an exception for them to have the radiator issue. My '08 has the original and it has absolutely no sign of the crack at 185k. Of course my '13 will apparently be going on its 3rd new radiator at 43k miles...so luck of the draw I guess.

Edit: Just looked at the photos in the ad, and it doesn't look to be the original radiator since its missing the "TRAD" stamp.
Also, after looking at the photos, that thing is a little beat up overall.

To which you can say with some rounding that the wheels, tires, sliders, starter replacement, and battery upgrade offer about $5k in value of parts alone, over $6k with labor. Nevermind the other upgrades also listed in ad. So if he wants to lower his price by your generous used part adjustment of $4k then he should consider meeting you at $22-ish.

You're dealing with someone who doesn't want/need to sell their vehicle so you're either gonna pay a premium to get him to let it go or you just need to find another one to buy. 🤷‍♂️

I came here to say this as I realized I missed the sliders upon first glance as well. The silver one also has 1-2 years less miles as well. I'd pass on the maroon one and see if you couldn't get the silver one in Houston down closer to $25K.

FWIW, this particular seller has had "several" 200's listed in the past year. He actually has two 200's (1 LX & red LC) and a 100 series listed online at this time. Not sure what his story is but since I'm also local DFW, I tend to pick up on trends like this since I'm addicted to Cruisers and Toyota 4wd's in general. I must stress that with each vehicle you consider, you add it to your login on Toyota Owners website (you MUST have this to be thorough while researching any TOyota) and verify its location/service history. Also, since I'm local to DFW, feel free to PM

If it's in very good condition, clear Carfax (no accidents) and it has been maintained well then yes, I would. I'd ask this....If it had 125K miles would you pay $25K. If you would then I wouldn't have a huge problem paying that for 150K miles. The condition and ownership history of the vehicle matters more in my opinion. If the vehicle is taken care of it will go to 300K miles. JMHO.

Another question -

I love the Cruisers but why not pay half the price and get a GX470 with half the miles?

Like I said, I would take a cruiser above all but it's a bit difficult to justify sometimes.

GX 470 is nice, a Land Cruiser 200 it is not. I've driven both and currently own a GX460 as well (wife's DD). I suggest driving a few and gaining your own impressions however. All these trucks are better than most but each version has it's issues which is why all data you can collect, here on MUD and elsewhere, will assist in making a sound purchase.

As someone who has owned both I can say that they aren't even close. The 460 more closely compares to the 4Runner than the 200. It's a good option but no where near as refined, lacks the power (in comparison), has less room (obviously), are extremely dated inside, and until recently, the aftermarket was scarce. That said, they are a dime a dozen and plummet in resale value which makes for a buyers market with a large pool to choose from. This is probably due to how many are leased and turned in 2-4 years old with low miles. I personally wouldn't be able to bring myself to pay more than $30K for a GX460 and it would have to be a late model in excellent condition and with extremely low miles at that. They are great off-road and are easily modded and if purchased correctly they can make for an excellent weekend wheeler if you can get past the odd barn door and horrid rear cargo space.

I looked at and drove GX’s ..... problem was that the cabin was a bit small for me. LC cabin seems more roomy. It also seemed,to me that the GX was more “twitchy” at speed on the highway. Also, I will pull trailers on occasion and felt the LC,would be better at that.

But, I did consider getting an older GX and kinda building it out like my Jeep.

Depending on what you use it for, the GX may be an excellent choice.

For me it would just be a daily that I occasionally took out to the ranch and did some light off-roading.

I like the GX470 so it would be one with under 100k miles and no Nav. Seems like a decent option for what I need, especially considering it's half the price.

GX470 are at least ten years old at best, finding one with under 100K miles and in good condition will be difficult. I like the look but the major issue with them is the weak 8" rear end, you would need to upgrade to the 8.2" out back if you plan to do any heavy towing, rock crawling or decent wheeling at all with tires larger than stock.

This question has been asked sooooooo many times. Quick search came up with many threads, let alone the countless times it comes up in other threads. GX isn't a 200. If you want a GX, it's cheaper and easier to find so go for it!

My ‘08 LC has over 200,000 miles and the last major trip was a 5,000 km trip to the Yukon towing a 25’ trailer. Absolutely bullet proof. I would not hesitate to buy one with 50,000 fewer miles.
