Would This Look Stupid?

I’ve been looking for roof rack towers for a bit. Man they’re pricey. I picked these up for $50.

Has anybody ever used these?

Would this look funny? Obviously I would put the rack on top of the bars.

The one in front is set wide enough for the 40.

Go for it. I would slot some metal tubing 3/8 to 1/2 OD and slip over the tab (with adhesive calk inside) and a layer of inter tube/fuel hose on the outside of the tube that clamps to the roof rail so that it provides good surface area and support on the fiberglass. Might need longer bolts or other chiropractic adjustment to make up for the better surface support.

Roof racks are for light bulky things like duffle bags with clothes. sleeping bags, tents. Not for tool boxes, spare tires, gas cans...

Drive slower on rough road if the rack is full. On steep side hills all that extra weight so high up can pull you over off the wheels with little to no warning.

If your not liking the final results you can change it later… but… I am thinking it’s going to look fine

Do it , install the bar , it is practical to carry canoe , ladder, 2x4 or other long items, the basket can be on or off as need for luggage

Don’t know that it would look stupid, but if I did it I’d feel stupid afterwards because it would sit too tall to clear the header on my garage door. Care to guess how I know….
