Origin of the 55
Montano- the 55 came to be mine in a funny (but pretty normal really) way. The previous owner, who lived in maryland, had it at carlisle trying to sell it in the car corral, didn't have any luck. How he got my name I don't know but he called me on a Sunday afternoon and told me what he had to sell. He offered to bring it to my place (70 mile drive from carlisle!!!) to let me see it. He showed up, I liekd what i saw, and made a package deal for the 55, a 60 that he had left back home in MD, and a Honda 70 trail bike that was in the back of the 55. He left the 55 at my place and drove the "parts" 60 to my place from MD the following weekemn when i paid im the balance owed. I don't rrmember what i paid but I'm thinking $3500 for everything.
The guy was starting to repaint the truck- when I bought it the entire front end had been painted blue and white. The paintwork was pretty good. I don't know what color it was originally. I do remember that the body and frame were virtually rust-free. It had there on the tree when in my posession, too.
I kept it a few months then sold it to a gnother guy from Maryland. he was new to the 55 series as I remember and I know I sold him some parts and answered a lot of the questions that he had. I was suprised when I heard that you had bought it but knew it was going into good hands at that time. That's all i can tell you about the old girl.
I could give you a little history on your red 40, too- that oen came from PA south of Harrisburg, I bought that one in another package deal. It was black when i bought it and still black when I sold it to matt reed. That was a really good 40. I have some good video of it wheeling at paragon with the top off when it was still in matt's posession. Gary S
