Great looking rig! I see alot of these here in Japan, hoping to bring one back myself. Keep us updated and stay in touch, Id like to meet up and see it in person when Im on leave in March!

I look forward to meeting you man. Whenever you're back just shoot me a pm.

Yup you guys are right HDJ81 it is. Ive been looking for an HDJ80 for a while and I still use that. Besides Im a NEWBIE :hillbilly:

I finally made it back to Atlanta. It was supposed to be just 2800 miles but I would up doing close to 3500 in total. There is just way too many sights to see and stuff to do. Met some great people on the way.

Mechanically the trip was almost uneventful. The motor just purred along and it kept going. It did Moab with ease as all other dirt roads I was on. I did say almost uneventful. In Hays, Kansas after the 11000 foot climb in Colorado and the high speed (80mph) downhill via Denver, I stopped to get something to eat and noticed quite a bit of oil under the rig. Looked around and all I saw was a mess of oil everywhere.

The PCV hose coming out the rocker cover is not connected to a catch can. It just dangles out the side. This hose in its stock form gets fed back into the manifold. I still have to learn about this motor so Im not sure why that was done. I thought that all that oil was coming from there which would have been an indication of blow by. I really thought my trip had come to an end with some massive repairs coming up. I wound up in a garage in Hays and put it on the lift and we started rinsing the oil off just to make sure. Then while rinsing under the turbo we discovered the leak was coming from the oil feed pipe to the turbo. That one is a pressured line and explains the mess. I can safely say that nothing will ever rust on the underside of the truck :bounce:

A call to Ryan at ACC in Atlanta yielded some info. Another call to Steve at EBI in Vancouver yielded more info on whet to do. But a huge thanks goes out to @Rock40 who gave me an Australian service manual which solved my issue. Not only that, he shipped out the exact part I needed the same day. Ross THANK YOU. I owe you big!!!!!!

The remainder of the trip just involved putting in two quarts of oil every couple hundred miles. Incidentally I had a 5 gallon jug of royal purple in the trunk that the PO gave me. The motor must be happy with all that clean new oil.

Got home on Friday and passed out till today. I will upload the videos and pics tonight.

This trip was awesome!! One of those things one does not forget for life.

oh man, I dream of a trip like that.

Don't dream it! Just do it. You have the Land Cruiser which is the biggest part about taking trips like this. You are in Venezuela. Drive west before heading south then east on Patagonia. Your satisfaction levels will spike higher than getting laid by the top 50 of your dream women :flipoff2:

And if you have deeper pockets head to Ushuaia and load the cruiser on a Russian Icebreaker and head to Antarctica. Now that would be epic.

I hope you guys like pics because you are about to get a s*** ton of them. They were just taken with an iPhone so the quality aint always the best. Ill try to remember what pic was where.

Driving South after meeting up with @Rock40. Everything is just green green green

And Going through Snoqualmie Pass

After a bit of driving through this green scenic tree covered are I go over the mountain and the scenery instantly changes from lush mountain to barren dessert. Absolutely stunning!! The next short Vid is around the Yakima reservation.

I have to take the mutts out. I will continue uploading shortly.

And some pics while still in Washington State on the way to Bend, Oregon.

I wonder why it will not let me post more than two pics or videos per post?

Bend Oregon is a cool town. It seems like everyone is either driving a subaru 4wd or some kind of diesel truck. You can identify tourists because they are the ones driving everything else. Roof racks and kayaks mounted on the vehicle seems to be the norm and everyone seems to be high :hillbilly:

If you drive to the west its all trees and mountains. If you drive to the east its all high desert. I went east at first but turned around and opted for the desert. We have plenty of trees out east.

Somehow in Oregon you can camp anywhere and drive anywhere you want. Lots of great scenic trails.

After Bend, Oregon I headed towards Idaho on the highway 20. Really nice views. Never saw wild horses before. There is something very serene about watching wild horses crossing a river.

I got really antsy at this point to get to Utah so I powered through the night and the morning to get to Moab which is the highlight of my trip. I love everything about that place. I can't wait to get the cruiser built up to comfortably camp everywhere. I just want to stay there for a while.

My cruiser is mechanically sound. Its not the pretties thing in the world. Everything was fine temperature wise until the sun rose in the morning in Utah. I have no air conditioning. The PO never bothered fixing it because they just did not need it up north. Holy fxxxing s*** when the sun rose I was getting cooked in the cruiser. Then there was a bloody traffic jam in Ogden, Salt Lake and Provo. I was happy to finally get to the mountains west of the cities where it cooled down. Then came a long as stretch of desert without any services for miles upon miles upon miles. I had the windows down and I felt like I was in a blast furnace. To say that it really sucked would have been an understatement. I never want to be without Ac on highway 70 ever again!!!! Somewhere midway there was a service stop. I struggled to get out of the cruiser and to the air-conditioned gas station. I opened the door and the blast of cold air should have felt good, but the temperature difference was just a shock to the system. I waited a bit to acclimate then went in. I felt like a human being again. I proceed to the fridge and buy 5 gallons of water. Exit the building and proceed to pour the water over me. Now I have spectators and I was soaking wet. I did not care. Better shame than pain. They soon realized that I don't have AC. "Oh" they said "we all thought you lost your marbles". No dammit, Im just really fxxxing hot!!!

Then came my reward. My oasis. My Moab :bounce2::bounce:
