errr.... you have heard early Ferrari V12s? Now that would be seductive!

Actually I prefer the V8 rumble over the V12. There is just something about that sound that is un-like anything else on the planet.

Me too, preferably a 426 HEMI in a 66 Plymouth Belvedere HP2. :bounce:

If the objective is to increase power, how about increasing the compression ratio?

Will be doing that via head shaving... it would be very nice to bump it to a good 10.5 or so, but that would probably require a different piston.

There are many nice sounding engines out there... some V8's sound good, some do not... I like the Porsche 911 flat 6, VW 2 valve VR6, the Audi Quattro 5 cylinder "warble" is nice... Something about a big tuned straight 6 just does it though. Sounds like "old, reliable, utility"....

Headgasket improvement is obvious...

Argh...... tonight I'm going to have nightmares about that head gasket replacement .

Brian, it sounds v. interesting. You seem to be shooting for a less head work than Robbie did. Any particular reason?

What did all your parts go for, if you don't mind me asking ? head gasket ?

Sorry Lars! :D

Quite unsure of how much porting work will happen. It all depends on what the ports look like... I do tend to air on the conservative side of head porting.

I snagged the Toyota head gasket set on ebay for $36! It was missing the valve cover gasket and valve stem seals. Found the seals on ebay from a different seller for $12. I am still waiting for the price on the other hard parts.
My dealer gives me an excellent discount...

Do the dyno? Of course! Think of the children! That stroked concept sounds appealing. If the stock 1FZ-FE puts out ~212hp, you should see a much higher output on a stroked beast. Have you come out with any models anticipating output on the torque and hp numbers? You mentioned trying to see what a I-6 will do. Does this include a S/C or turbo in the future on top of the block and head mods? Hmmm, stroked, milled, overbored, polished, balanced & blueprinted with a ton o' air on top. Sounds good. We'll want pictures and audio you know....

bjowett,

cant wait to see how this turns out. :D i know somebody else who is making noises about doing some work of this sort to there engine this winter. will be watching this develop with great interest. please keep the info coming. :bounce:

Brian,
You need any help wrenching let me know. I am not an expert, but having owned 7 cruisers over the years they are in my blood. Wouldn't mind spilling some of that if you need help.

If I remember right I also used the 1mm over pistons from toyota, But when I did the math(which I have at the shop, not here in AK) I came out closer to 4.7 liters using this bore. There is a crank shop here in denver that say he can stroke a 4.5 crank about .015 inch(stock bearing in .5mm over). This would then create some more displacement as well as stroke. Not much but the price was not bad, because it included balancing and polishing the crank (about 225). The cylinder wall will handle all this, as well as the rods (about the size and thickness of a 454 rod)and pistons. Remember any time you increase displacement even a little, the force on the piston surface is greater by factors of multiplication instead of addition(do not remember the formulas, has so much to due with increases of the combustion pressures under firing). I think to get to a 10.5 to one compression with 1mm of piston size you will need to remove about .025 inch of cylinder head(would need to return mechanical timeing to stock or close). In the book is the cc of the combustion chamber to reference off of. I you chose to stroke it a little then milling the head would be less, you would just have to do the math to see. By stoking the crank, you may only have to mill the head about .010 instead of the full .025. this last sentance is just a guess and I would have to do the math. I really do not think the head is that much of a bottle neck, it breaths real well as it is. Now the manifolds(in,ex) may be more of a problem then the head. later robbie

Stock displacement is 4,476.7 cc

1 mm OS bore makes it 4,566.7 cc

David, more hands are always welcome when it comes time to pull or place an engine... If you are interested, just let me know, and I'll PM you when it is time. You are also welcome to simply come have a look at the engine as it progresses.

Robbie, I used this online calculator ..... http://home.earthlink.net/~jalby/puter.htm

Thanks for all the other info... perhaps I can provide some pictures of the manifold, then you can point out what you did, and we can discuss the improvements for everyones benefit. Some consideration has been given to tracking down the 98 and up 1FZ intake manifold and stainless header. I will probably skip the extra stroke. I am interested in perhaps getting some cams built... Toyota tends to use such mild units in the 6 cylinder truck engines... or at least the power band would suggest that.

..... I offered up my help as well earlier ....... "strong back, weak mind" :) Would love to gain any experience/knowledge I can! Oh and I did offer to bring some
as well.

Landtank - I've been emailing back and forth with CruierMaine, sounds like you were up this way recently (Portland, ME) let me know when you will be back, I would love to check out your Cruiza!

$ ?

Did ya firgure out what the parts a going to cost yet ? ball park ?
