Are you sure? My 2009 windshield feels like I am an ant behind a magnifying glass. I came from top of the line benz's and bmw's and was used to do the windshield blocking out harmful rays. It's gotten soo bad that I have considered tinting my front windshield. I use my visor to block my upper body from burning up.

If its a lexus thing will it work on a LC?

Yes do a search I posted an article from Toyota Lexus that confirms it

Reg,
If it's just a chip, no need to replace. I've had Safelight repair a small crack and it was nearly invisible when they finished. It was free thru my insurance: they'd rather have me get it repaired pronto than let it propagate and end up costing $700+to replace it. I would think a chip could be repaired very well. If the damage is directly in the drivers view, they may not be allowed to repair it though.

I've also had a windshield replaced on a previous car. Must have been aftermarket because it was a little wavy! Plenty safe but just noticeable to irritate me. So I'd vote to demand OEM if replacement is required.
HTH.

Thanks for the note, so you think Safelite (at least near you) are capable doing LX?

Safelite used a strange mechanical device to repair a chip i had. They didn't just slather ointment in the chip. Pretty much invisible when done. The did have a disclaimer stating the windshield could potentially break during the procedure. It didn't, but i was nervous.

I think they heat the smaller cracks to "fuse" the glass together. I've done Safelite before on my Jeep Wrangler, good job, but this car is a different animal...

All I can say having replaced mine with a generic is that OEM is the way to go. This one (had it reinstalled twice just to make sure) whistles at 60mph and the wind noise is 300% louder than the OEM one which was cracked 6 ways from Sunday. $250 is nice but my next one will be OEM.

So driving on highway a couple of days ago and a tree truck (you know the ones with the big blades that take the tree out of the ground) was coming up beside me and all of a sudden a bunch of debris came flying off. So I'm screaming, cursing, etc. while trying to avoid the debris. Of course right at the end a large rock comes flying right up to the windshield. Sure enough, a fairly good size chip on the drivers side. Luckily no other damage.

It started raining later and saw that the wiper was getting caught in the chip and causing some streaking.

Called insurance and have Safelite coming out Friday. I'll find out if they can fill or if windshield needs replacement. I'm hoping I have similar luck as DirtNap did, but if it has to be replaced I will definitely go OEM route....

called both dealers near me and the BOTH farm out the replacement to a local glass shop. One that I spoke with said the ONLY difference in the glass was that it didn't say Toyota on it...same manufacturer, etc.

$410 out the door.

Here's the kick in the nuts...having the radar cruise recalibrated costs 2-2.5 hours of shop time...or in this case, $370. FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Our 2015 LX windshield has dusted a few rocks that I'm confident would have chipped my 4runner glass. Last week the wife caught a rock on the top edge of glass which caused an instant 18" crack. Safelite seems to know their business regarding replacement of the LX windshield, but now I'm concerned about the heated windshield wipers, and dynamic radar cruise.

Another poster suggested this has to be reprogrammed. Anyone else experience this?

if that poster was me, that was from Toyota dealer down the street. Radar cruise requires re-calibration with new windshield. The repair guy told me that and I called to confirm with dealer. Call yours and ask...I'd be curious to know if I was being fed a line or not. My guess is not.

Not sure your year/model but on my 2013:
  • Auto brightness is the little dome thingy on the dash
  • Auto wipers are in the windshield. No recalibration necessary, but the sensor does need to be glued to the windshield
  • Radar cruise is in the grill behind the Toyota emblem

Safelite tech came out today and said crack can't be filled/fixed. Will need new windshield and has to be ordered. They said it will be Toyota OEM windshield. Once it arrives have to take in to their shop to get replaced as well as calibrated. Update once it's at their shop.
