Will getting another dog help my dog's attitude?

All,

About 3 months ago I resuced my boxer/shep mut from a horrible pound. However, she's a year old and is constantly tugging on us or misbehaving to get our attention b/c she is bored as s*** and wants to play. This constant boredom is the major souce of her misbehavior and I'm beginning to think she is telling me she needs a friend. This sounds retarded but she get's literally argues when its time to take her away from a friend she's met in the park. So what are your thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Chase

I think it does help somewhat with the boredom... of course, at 1 yr old, she is still a pup and will want to play and act up regardless of what you do. Sometimes my Blue Heeler is quite content to play with her "little brother", but most of the time she still wants to play with dad.

It will probably help, but make sure that it is an equally high energy dog so you don't have fighting because one wants to play and the other just wants to lay there. It could also backfire, you could end up with two bored dogs.

Make sure the Dogs are both the same age. I have a lab--she is around 5 and a doberman that is around 3 years--the doberman is always biting her trying to play--the lab is lazy. Also have a 3 month German Shepard temporairly--that thing has serious energy--the older dogs are jealous I have to keep them seperated. Check out a German Shepard if you have room....

2 dogs, if compatable, are great for each other. down side, twice the food, vet bills and twice the poop... and the big downside is the tear in your heart when you loose 2 dogs instead of one... no matter how may dogs you have, if you love them it hurts when they pass on...

age really doesn't matter...labs are naturally lazy...

hummm, every golden lab i have seen has been fat and lazy... it seems they make great trash compactors though

get him a wolverine as a companion and he won't be bored.

Are there rescue shelters that will allow you to bring a dog home for a few visits to get acclimated and see if they will be a good companion with the other dog? Im just afraid with her dominant personality that she might love every dog she meets but will be very picky with who she'll share her home.

4alarm - Great video btw. I think its the only reason we've come this far with her. I tried a walking routine and she could walk for days. Then I tried running routine to wear her ass out but she's not phased by any amount of exercise. A change to a no filler dog food has also helped a lot.

Wolverine!

YES.

That is classic.

We need Wolverine v. Pitbull videos, and then decide between the two which would make the best dog companion.

I'd have to disagree with you whole-heartedly on this one.

I have a yellow and a black lab, both about ten years old and they have worn me out from the beginning. Always wanting to play and interact and they get quite upset if I don't give them something to do. I love it though.

They are both getting older (aren't we all?) but they still act like they were young pups. (My male lab can scale a chain link fence and catch a frisbee five feet in the air).

Don't get me started on swimming and playing with the ball... I usually have to drag the male out of the water for fear he would pass out from exhaustion (he'll swim LITERALLY as long as you let him)

I have seen labs that are VERY laid back though.

As far as getting a companion for your dog, it sounds like she is bored-but she is also a young pup, so that would be normal.

I think getting a male dog for her to play with (around the same age and size) would be very rewarding for both you and your dog.

I don't know what my dogs would have done without each other.

Go for it!
