I have some sources for slider window manufacturing. I will start working on this one if there is enough interest. I think there will be but please comment if you want a reasonably priced set. There is only one retailer that has these available for a whoppin $410(isnt that kinda steep?)

I need a little help from all of you to get started. I got rid of my last hard top a few months ago. I dont have one to take measurements. I have looked everywhere online and cant find measurements and when i do, I am getting mixed information. If someone has a side hardtop panel with the glass out that they could take some pictures with a measuring tape showing height and width. This will work for a preliminary work up. I can get a panel that Tackleberry has offered near me, but it might be a week or so. Id like to get on this now. This would be for years 63-76.

I found a few pictures that are not mine but show what im thinking.

Thanks Brothers!

I dont have measurements yet. Thats what I was asking for, but, Spectors Sliding window is for the BJ44/46 so I am assuming at this point that they are the same size.

FYI

The opening in 76-84 tops is the same size if you remove the cross bar...:D

I'm interested for a '71, tempered glass, preferably dark tinted. The window assembly must be positively sealed against water.

Was going to order a set from SOR, but they've had another price increase. As noted, they're $410 (not counting a limited $30 discount at the time of this post). These also include a screen. No mention of replacement glass, screens or parts. The SOR windows bolt in and have a foam seal. I don't know how weatherproof that seal is in the long run.

The problem with the earlier FJ40s is that there's no practical way to vent the rear in hot weather. The roof material is not ideal to install vents. I tried leaving the upper door open, but that sucks in a copious amount of exhaust fumes. Sliding windows would also help dispel moisture that causes window fogging. While not watertight when open, they'd still be a help to increase circulation. Despite a rear heater, I find the rear windows fog up badly because the moisture cannot escape.

where does it say on their site it fits for the 44/46? they say its for the 40's.
I think the 44/46 are the same as the 45/47... but unable to compare.. any dimensions might help :D

At this poit it is an assumption. It was confirmed with them by phone that it will fit both but I wouldn't bank on it 100% yet.

just a little info. I have a 83 BJ42 LX that came factory with the sliders and when restoring I could not find any replacement of the felt and rubber for the windows so I took a chance and bought the sliders for the 40 series from SOR hoping it would be a direct replacement but they did not fit mine for the shape of my LX was a little different so did not work for me.

ok good to know, I was expecting this answer... the sor window is for older type 40 only, the newer 1979+ cruisers like bj42, bj44, bj46, hj47 have a different size window,

now i'm curious to know if Toyota was smart enough to make that later window ( with or without sliding glass ) all one size, so parts are interchangable...

good thread!!! :)

Boy, if those would fit my '77 I'd sure be interested. My dog has a heck of a time with the little pop out ones.

They'll fit a 77... I've cut the crossbar out and used the older one piece windows before. The old windows were a perfect fit. I've read of others adding the cross bar and putting in the pop out windows.

I can attest to the benefit of opening rear windows. I swapped on an 81 top onto my 74 and the rear windows now stay clear rather than foggin up.:D I've yet to see how much difference they make in the summer... But I'm sure they'll help.

Great information!

from what I recall the SOR ones were for the 76 and earlier, so the ones without the pop out vent. But i dont think SOR has them any longer. But anyway I think its a great idea if someone can reproduce for the earlier or even later years, I can tell you I really wanted to keep my sliding windows but my truck came factory with no rollbar so I dont know the issue there? But good luck and I hope it works out.

I would beg that they not be tinted or in colors not related to stock.

Love to hear this comment. I've Discussed that quite a bit. THEY WILL BE CLEAR.
