Ok, not what you guys think....I'm 6' 4" and frankly my LX450's driver's seat is just too tight for me. I almost didn't buy one because of it, but my friend (AOWRS) on MUD, said he could make seat extensions for me. I had looked into Land Tank's modification, but that only provided an additional two inches.

This is my first installation post fellas, so I'm not sure if these links will work properly, I believe they will. I hope this is helpful.

So here it is:

We used M10, Grade 10.9 fasteners, quarter inch thick, one and a half inch wide steel. We spent over eight hours on the entire process which included, mocking it up with thin steel plate first, had me sit in the seat to make sure I was comfortable, then sourcing it and Home Depot, the fasteners came ACE Hardware, cutting the appropriate sizes, welding them and then the installation. Once installed, my wife, Chuchi, our 89 pound Black Russian Terrier, and I took a 2500 mile trip down to Miami and back with no issues. We then took it apart one last time. He sprayed them with Dupli Color etching primer and hit it with three coats of Black Dupli Color Semi Gloss High Heat paint.

You'll note that we had to weld three pieces of steel together to make the rear left bracket one inch thick, because when we moved the entire seat back four inches there is a valley which is exactly one inch on the left side of the seat. With that additional modification, the seat completely level. It is important to note that this does not raise the seat at all, the seat is at the stock height and these brackets are as bomb proof as you can get.

Total cost in materials was less than $20 but a fair amount in labor and a great deal of creativity on the part of my buddy, AOWRS. Hope this helps those with height issues such as myself. Cheers.

Looks great! Are both sides of the rear bracket bolted down?

These look like they would be compatible with the manual seats as well.

I would be interested in buying a set if your friend is interested in manufacturing some more. I am near 6'4" myself.
 
Im 5'8, I could use the extra height to see over the hood!! hahah ;)

Yes, these brackets are bolted down to the stock openings by identical OEM fasteners and very stout steel plate. These seats aren't going anywhere. The seats slide back and forth, just as they did before because they're on the same rail, just four inches to the rear. Regarding my friend's desire to build more...unfortunately I doubt he'd want to do so, it was a great deal of work and when he does fabricate items it's for Porsche. He's a Porsche owner and aficionado. You're welcome to ask him though, he's AOWRS on MUD, his daily drive is a 2001 4Runner with over 275K original miles that looks new. Cheers.
 
I can't for the life of me understand why no one did this before. It's so much more straight forward than the other brackets where you have to take apart and grind the seat track. This is all anyone ever needed to do. Bravo!

Now when can I buy a set?
 
I did something very similar. I only needed 3 inches though... :lol:

Mine ain't all purty, but mine ain't a Lexus. :grinpimp:

The difficult part is figuring out how to move it up and back so you have clearance for the power seat motor assy, and keep it as low as you can. I like the tail support on your front brackets. My rear brackets are just 1/4 x 1.25 strap with a nut welded on the back side.

My concern with this is that the fronts seem to be ok but the rear is what worries me. In a forward head on crash, your body and seat want to move thru the windshield. What stops you is the steering wheel (airbag), seat belts and seat. The rear extension pieces, since there is only one part tied into the truck (the front), the rear will now act as a fulcrum, allowing the rear of the seat to lift up. In an accident that's a worry.

If you sit in the 2nd row seat push forward hard on the driver's seat, can you get it to move up? If so then its a problem.

Yeah, ideally you'd want a bolt that goes all the way through the floor and then a very stout washer before attaching to a nut.

I haven't been able to move it up, I suppose because it's on tight and it's half inch steel. I haven't measured how many pounds per inch would be necessary to bend these, but I think they'll hold. Thanks.

Hey, as long as it works, it doesn't have to be pretty. We just wanted them to look good. Yes, the tail support was a nice addition. Cheers.
 
Hmm, now I'm concerned all over again :D

I looked at all the pictures and it clearly shows that all four original mounting points are still used. I think you just saw the first picture showing the front bracket only and thought that was all that was done. Look at each one by scrolling on the photobucket tab and you will see he also has brackets/fasteners for the rear mounting points as well. I am 5'9.526515" tall, so I will not need to do this mod.

Simple test, take a 1/4" steel bar and bolt down one side of it so that it will never move. With the other side of that 1/4" steel bar add the weight of the seat, the weight of the passenger and the force of a small compact car crashing into the front of it. What happens to the 1/4" piece of bar?

I can bend 1/4" steel just using a crowbar. Hell I was working with 3/16" yesterday and it was bending just with weight and arm strength.

Again, I'm just saying ;)

I appreciate your concerns, really I do. But I love this modification and it aint going nowhere...lol.
 
I spoke with my friend who installed these brackets and he did say that if I want, we can just screw the rears to the car, by making holes underneath the rear brackets. I'm not gong to do that, don't think it's necessary, but it is good to know if someone wants to take that extra step. Cheers.
