Thanks, still alot of little stuff to do -

Have to put on the new rear doors

Front door panels

Carpet

Seat belts

Trim panels

OS Handles

Seats

Drill for the rear flares

Re-coat flare openings and rear doors w/ bedliner

Then onto the non-fire related stuff, like fixing my muffler mounts and the rear bumper mounts (one of the nuts spun in the frame taking it off), and the last big challenge of cutting the PS front fender.

I'm hoping the weather and the wife's work schedule work out such that I can get the rest of the interior back in this upcoming weekend. That and the muffler / bumper fix, and I should be out wheeling again - Hopefully the last week of the year.

It feels good to have it all buttoned back up at least. I hated having it w/ a tarp on it for a couple weeks while the windshield was out and I was doing the headliner. Looks bad in the driveway - more white trashy than normal to have it tarped.

Tried opening up the sunroof the other day to find my batteries are dead. I'm hoping that's just from sitting for months without being driven and not a sign that I've developed an electrical issue.

So far I've been lucky in that we haven't been hit with any snow or ice yet, cause as much as I like the Passat, I like my cruiser better for that kind of driving.

Gonna be nice to get back to finishing skid plate, reworking sliders, adding a swing out, putting a torsion bar rear swaybar on - you know, the fun stuff that you get to do rather than have to do.

In the spring, when it gets warm, it gets a new paint scheme - the rest gets the Olive Drab treatment like I've done on the windshield.... At that point, the whtie trash lexus also gets a name change....

  Nice!

ran into one little problem, I don't have the threads in the B pillar for the front seat belts. There is one above and one below, because the later models, at least the LX, have a sholder belt adjuster - that cost $80 to replace. I didn't keep mine, they were in rough shape, but now I've got to replace them new cause I didn't think they would be different from the truck I got the interior out of.

Man, your almost done!

Great work!
At this rate you'll be finished in no time.

Seats look great. Man you have come a long way since the fire. I have to give u props, I would have had to have taken a break, but u have been chuggin along steadily the whole time.

What year truck did that interior come from? I really like the fabric. My seats need a recover, but I want to stay with fabric, and a Toyota pattern if possible, and that in a grey is exactly what I'm looking for.

I can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks, I really want to go wheeling before the end of the year. Today I was working on redoing the muffler supports. Was never really happy with the mounting and the bumper is off for the wheel well opening project that started this off in the first place. It might seem like continuous work, but it's really just a day here and a day there. Work and a 2 and 4 year old keep it from being much more than that. Though they both helped me put the seats in yesterday.

The seats and whole interior came from a '93 my brother was parting out. Hit up GinericLC, I think the one he's parting out right now has a grey interior. My leather inteior was trashed anyway, so it looks better now than when I started. The one thing I am going to miss though is the rear seats don't recline. Not a huge deal, but I've found putting in car seats it's easier to get them tight if I recline the seat, then put the car seat in, tighten it up, then tilt the seat forward and it really gets them tight. I've survived more than my fair share of auto accidents, so I'm kinda paticular about the kids seats.

Missed it by THAT much....

Got 98% of the truck done and I can't go wheeling this weekend because I didn't get the seat belt sliders ordered in time!

Well, at least it'll give me time the next two days to finish the rear hatch and clean up the garage some - it's a mess! Next week though, should have most of it buttoned up. It's amazing how many little things it takes to pull a whole interior apart and put it back together.

Still, at least I have undented rear doors on, all the seats and rear seat belts in, remounted muffler, modified rear bumper, mounted replacement rear tire (other was cut by the bumper not giving good enough clearance). Sooooooo close.... yet so far away....

I have to admit. The brown cloth interior looks great. If I could go full gray cloth, I'd do it in a second.

Man, you just don't know HOW close it was to those seats being MINE! I had contacted your brother (must've been right about the time of the fire or shortly thereafter), and before either of us knew you were going to want them, I had cut a deal on them with him! We were working on shipping costs, when he called me to tell me you wanted them.....DANG IT! Anyway, I thought you'd find that story to be funny (and, actually, I do too) I just repaired my leather seats, and it looks like you put the cloth set to good use........ Anyway, GREAT restoration job (and documentation on 'MUD) Hope it turns out to be everything you hoped it would be.

Based on what I've followed here, I'm sure you won't be disappointed! David

I'm glad you find the story funny - I knew my brother had someone on the line for the interior, I didn't know how far the deal was until I came to pick up the stuff. I know how important his rep is so I apreciate you being cool about it. If I hadn't been able to get the stuff from him I did, and been able to pick them up when picking up the Passat, my truck likely would have been gutted and in the for sale section. I'd had my eye on the fronts from him before the fire, but we just couldn't figure out a way to ship them for a reasonable cost. I'm looking forward to being able to put up the finished pictures and some long awaited action shots.

so here's how she sits until I get seat belt sliders next week and gain a little more motivation. Got kinda burnt out this week going after it day after day - so much easier when it's pick a 3 hour project, do that, then walk away than a 40 hour project and at each turn go, "OK, one down, 44 to go".

You can see I painted the inside of the doors dessert sand. Seemed a better choice than leaving them white in the front and gold in the back or doing them ultimate body color of OD. They'll be OD on the other side of the door seal.

I knew my brother would give me crap about the flexy flares, but it finishes off the edge of the modified wheel well openings nicely, and covers the tires now. That and I bought them with a $50 gift card I got from work. Still need to trim them, and do the fronts of course.... bit by bit....

you won't like the lights on the bar. Can't see...

You mean the ones that have been on the truck for 3.5 years that I really like and have no trouble seeing around?

:oLOL...

great work.

i am curious about the purpose of such a huge stinger on the bumper. it looks long enough to put serious leverage on the frame if you nose in hard. why do you need it?

I have a hoop on my Jeep ( with out attached lights) and love it. Looks cool and a smart addition for safety.

If it had to be used, I think you would be beyond worrying about your frame.

but when is it useful or safer to have one so long? it appears to me to be counterproductive if you are switching from a steep decline to steep climb rapidly. in that context it's a shovel.

on old logging roads here you must nose into and out of narrow v shaped cross trenches created by the removal of culverts. i have buried the arb on my truck many times without issues. i think if i had that stinger i would be digging my way to australia each time.
