Yep, after leaving messages last night, and this morning at 9:30 and this afternoon at 2:30, and calling the 800 customer service number for the umptenth time, I got confirmation that they did look at it yesterday, and that it is totaled (big surprise there!). They won't have a value assesment until friday though - which I'm not happy about. Though once we agree on a value, they can cut the check emmediately, so if I accept there offer on Friday, I'll have a check Friday. They're going to cover the car seats cause they are required by law and therefore considered part of the vehicle. The 200 dollar CO2 life jacket that my dad left in the truck when he was visiting is not covered or my gps. The manager I talked to wasn't 100% sure, but he believes that the rule in Oklahoma is that if it's more than 10 model years old - and I just confirmed that with an OK Salvage title search. So I should end up with a clean and green title (in OK it is literally a green title opposed to marked title which is red).

Unfortunatlely there was a relatively low mileage (134K) '86 4 Runner for $1650 in town I missed cause of the delay. My thoughts right now are maybe by a stockish or even non-stockish 4 Runner after I get my moo-la, and drive it while I fix the interior on the 80. Then decided to sell or keep it. Though I think I'll put it up for sale anyway as soon as the insurance is taken care of - and if any of those "Keep it" people want to do the work rather than me, they can have it!

Yes, I'm a rambling mess - I don't like uncertainty.....

Don't let it sit. It will only become harder. I say jump right in as soon as you get the cash. Get it done and move on.

Take a deep breath and chill, my friend.:D Do some research and come up with a realistic value for your rig, and stick to it. Their first offer will likely be the lowest possible offer. If you appear desperate, you will loose all leverage.

If you don't like the offer, insist on documentation on how they calculated the value. Also, document all conversations and retain any paperwork that you receive. Do not accept any assessment options without the advise of an attorney, this is binding arbitration, you will forced to accept the result.:bang:

Remember, they have to settle with you. You do not have to settle with them until you are satisfied. :hhmm:

I can't believe i'm the first to say "that'll buff out..."

bummer bud, but sounds like you'll have a project and maybe enough for an economy car too...

Not planning on letting it sit, but after stripping the interior out, it might take a week or two to get seats and belts shipped from who knows where and longer for other items. I can't go 4-6 weeks without a vehicle that can haul kids.

I have a number in mind. Already que'd it up with the supervisor that I was looking for the value of the aftermarket stuff too, though without receipts it's hard. I just want to get to that first offer. If there is a fight over the value, the sooner the fight starts, the sooner it is over. I just get upset when they're not returning calls or letting me know what's going on. It's a little easier to chill now that I at least know they are covering it. I was pretty concerned they'd try to come up with some reason not to. They are afterall a insurance company and make more money the more they deny.

Actually I think I was the first to say "That'll buff out" - to the firemen when they said they were sorry my truck that looked so cool was so fried :)

For what it's worth, Walking Eagle, while I was welding my rear bumper together, I shielded the inlet pipe to the fuel cell while welding the hitch receiver support into place.

If it had not been for reading your story, I may not have taken the extra step on the side of caution.

Eagle, I just though of something. Its not that far from you, in Joplin.

This place We sell wrecked cars rebuildable cars repairable salvage parts. has a rolled lex with oak inter that you could probably get a lot parts off. The headliner wasn't in good shape but they also have an 80 with a good oak headliner.

Call and ask for Clint he was pretty easy to work with.

I would go the other direction. Find a truck in good shape with a fried engine and no lockers - should be stupid cheap. Transplant your known, serviced power train from Engine to axles over to it.

Of course that sounds easier than it is. Time, space and money... And no, I don't want/need another project.

I hope you get this worked out and get into your or another 80 soon. Good luck to you.

Nice thought but that would put him back to where the wheel wells need some welding.

Isn't there a way that if you don't like the number $$ you can have the Ins company find you a vehicle in like condishtion? Or you can propose one in like condish and they will buy it for you. Then you won't have to wait on parts or get a 4runner etc.

I don't care you you are, dat right dare is funny....

and sad,

and hurtfull,

and I just want someone at the %*%&) insurance company to give me a %*()%*(_*($ call. Supposed to get a call first thing this morning, so at 10:45 I say screw it, I'll call them, no dice, no answer...

&$)(*^&)(&*^)*(!

CJF-

You are correct. My insurance covered several items stolen from my truck a few years ago under home owner's insurance- there was the detuctible, but in this case it would worth paying if the insurance moves in his favor.

Oh man, that sucks... If you have any questions in regards to insurance, let me know and I'll be happy to help in any way I can. I'm not licensed in your state but I can at least give you some advice.

As for the truck, if it was mine I would let the ins co total it (I have tricks with that, too.), buy it back, buy a clean, stock 80 and swap your parts over. Sell off the parts you don't need to recover some more money and call it good. I agree that your Lexus isn't bad but I wouldn't want to drive it anymore... Just start over.
