White Trash Lexus Burnt Up - Now what?

Hey Creeper thanks, it's always good to know someone in the known. I think all the BS and frustration and the keep hounding them principle might have come out in my favor.

Found out they I was origonally told was the adjuster's boss was actually in home insurance. He didn't tell me that yesterday when I spoke with him. So I got the supervisor over in OKC's number. Called him no answer, left a message, called back an hour later, he answered, but of course didn't know anything. So I told him I wasn't getting any response from anyone and I was getting sick of asking for people's bosses. He tried calling the adjuster, and wasn't able to get ahold of her at the office or on her cell (surprise!). He said he would call me back after he looked into it. I asked him when, his response was "After a while I this is all news to me." I asked again "When." I wanted a time, since they've not be calling back. His final answer was "I leave work at 4:30, so if you haven't heard from me by then you'd better call me." I was like WTF? Not only is that not calling me back, but that's saying, I'm likely not going to remember to call you back. So, wife and I both have afternoon off, kids are at daycare, we go watch Salt, which happens to get out exactly at 4:00. I call since he hadnt' called (cell on vibe and clear signal). He doesn't pick up the dang phone, lets it roll to voice. The message I left was hot. Basically said I was sick and tired of them not returning calls or calling when they say the are going to and not answering the phone.

So, I call the 800 customer service #, ask for a manager. This lady listened to my story, gave me her name and direct number and promised to call back in 5. I had explained that I had all the dates and times of who I'd called and what was said written down. So she calls me back, says the OKC guy was putting the #'s together and would call me before leaving. I said it would be the first person besides her that actually called back.

Get the call from him. I think what happend was he got pushed to put a value on, and didn't consider the vehicles condition at all. The number he came up with was exactly NADA book. Then add in the sales tax, take off the $250 deductable ect. I didn't argue to get more out of it, cause even with the buy back it was much higher than I had even wished for. I'll get the car seats paid for too of course.

Kicker is my brother calls, has a good deal on a co-workers 80 year old mothers Passat w/ low miles that is too good to pass up. He also has a bunch interior pieces for the 80 from one he's parting out. We'll still have to see what happens with keeping it, as there is a certain f-it-all frustration. And while looking for something I kinda fell in love with the idea of a 1st gen 4 runner. So maybe you'll see it in the classifieds as for sale or trade on 4-runner. :)

All in all it's a big weight off my sholders, we'll do the check deal Monday afternoon. I Really do appreciate all the well wishes, concerns for my frustrations, offers for helps, and even the little jabs ;) This is a good group. Definately will be starting a new chapter in the story of White Trash Lexus.....

If the stink isn't too bad he's going to make out well. I pulled most of the interior today. Everything, seats, seatbelts, carpet, trim, door panels, etc.. He'll probably have the only LX in the world with cloth interior. The tricky part is going to be jamming all of the 80 interior into the Passat for his roadtrip home. It would be best if he could find a later model headliner as mine is 93 and they are a PITA to deal with. Personally I think I'd go with some carpet padding and the tan ribbed home depot indoor outdoor carpet on the ceiling. That might be too high class for him though. That would deaden the noise. The other cool thing about this process is that he's going to end up with a nice daily driver and he'll get to keep the LX for those OK ice storms and wheeling. That means he can push the LX a little harder. Or if he can't get the stink out of it he can go buy the 1st Gen 4Runners he's become fond of and I'll drive the LX home to ID and add it to my LC parts arsenal (what my wife refers to as the junkyard).

You have PM.

Thanks! That does help out.

Looking forward to getting the insurance check today, well, that is if they return the two phone calls I've already left, cause I was told to call first thing Monday to set up to get the check.......

I'm in the same boat. My adjuster has not inspected mine yet though, and I wish my truck looked like yours. That's totally salvageable.

Sorry you had to deal with this hassle, but it sounds like you made out OK...

Had to go to south Tulsa (40 min one way) to get the check, and of course, they didn't have the check for the car seats ready - for some reason a seperate check - so I had to sit there for 35 min for them to get their act together. WOW, the incompetance. Then it took a little running back and forth between the bank I have the loan with, and the bank I needed the money in to cover the check I already sent my brother for the passat. All in all 1/2 day off work. But all the money is paid, the truck is paid off, Amanda at my bank made sure to verify the insurance check right away so that I didn't have to wait for it to clear.

Always feel much better when everything is settled and done.

Kicker was I stopped to pick up a sixer of Corona and was so distracted I didn't even realize it was a 6-pack of 7oz bottles! As if Okie 3.2 wasn't weak enough!

Again, thanks everyone for the support. Now that all the drama is over, it's just pick up the new daily driver and the new parts in Idaho, and get to work.

I'll start another thread, I'm thinking "Six Million Dollar Lexus - Better, stronger, faster..." sounds like a good thread to document the rebirth.

Out of curiosity, who was you insurer? Don't recall you mentioning names earlier. Are you planning on keeping them?

Shelter -

I'm debating on weither to keep them or not. I'm definately going shopping though. Probably overdue for a competative analysis anyway. I've had other claims with them, the rear window and the lock on the Lexus were broken by thugs on new years day this year, and they paid quick, and just gave me the money, and I fixed it myself. Wifes CR-V that we don't have anymore had claims on it twice - once for her tagging a post in a parking tower, and once for hail. They were o.k. on those.

But this one has to make a person think twice about it. Had someone just returned a call and let me know what was going on rather than me having to hound them, I wouldn't have gotten as upset. Course, had they no screwed around on valuing the vehicle, they might not have had to do a quick only look at book valuation. Might have to switch companies just to get full coverage on the truck again after I restore it. Don't know if they'd give full coverage on a truck they've already totaled out once or not. The title isn't marked, so there is no way a future insurance company would have record of it being totaled - at least that I know.

I have all my calls documented, who, when, what messages were left, and will be writing them a letter with that documention. Someone needs a butt chewing over this for sure.

I think that is a perfect name for a toasty white truck...

Could call it the Smore truck?

Or, it might be a bit obvious, but how about Phoenix?

Offroads4x4 - I ordered some of that today. Got it here

Sparkle Auto detailing products aftermarket accessories car cleaning product enhancers

after checking out the instructions to make sure it was easy to use

http://www.bigdind.com/documents/msds/Fire D Lit.pdf

Checked the MSDS on it too, not bad.

Instructions are pretty close to what I would have guessed - take everything out you can, start the HVAC system, and fog it. Says not to over use and that one can is good enough for cars where you can't use a big fogging machine. So I found that place that you can get singles, most places I found it's a case of 12 for $50, which isn't bad, other than I don't need 10 cans floating aroudn the garage! So I ordered two cans of the Fire D One Shot After Fire Odor Control just in case, and one can of BIG D Odor Control Fogger in "new car scent" - cause I know sometimes after stuff have been cleaned and had the odors destoryed they can be kinda stale.

If I use it and it doesn't work, I've only thrown $25 at it - I've thrown more at worse ideas!

Hopefully I can loosen up the few parts of interior that are still attached today and tomorrow, and dump it Thursday or Friday - clean it all out and hit it with this stuff before I leave Saturday. At least that way when I get home from Idaho Monday/Tuesday I'll have an idea if I'm in for a harder road or if I've gotton lucky.

Nice thing is that if you do end up selling it, anything you do just improves the resale value. So even if the smell doesn't entirely come out, your $25 will repay itself many times over.
