Vancouver Island Cruiser Guy

Bill et al.

I am planning on making this one .... can you post one of your great maps to the trail head and first camp. I will be coming up probably Friday, depending on ferries - not sure on timing.

Thanks Glenn

A couple of us want to come from the island...who can we contact for info? We could come over late Friday or on the first ferry Saturday. Will there be anyone around to hook up with? Directions to trail head etc would be helpful too.
Thanks,
Christina

What time do's the first ferry come in? I was thinking of leaving Langly around 7 AM on the Saturday but we can change that to accomidate you. If you come over Friday night and wont to make your way to the trail head here is a link.http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=...20.578384&spn=0.169466,0.456619&t=h&z=12&om=1 and we can pick you up on our way by in the morning. The trail head is a little hard to see comming from the south but here is a picture of it comming from the north. As far as more details keep watching this thread or PM me.

Well from what I remember of that fun filled day with Brad tugging Granite Grinders 40 that same route (starting at Wells Lake), once it was up Falcon hill it wasn't too bad. But that was after 2 fried winches, Brad blowing some electrical, and probably numerous other things, and then finally getting it up to the top. Then Pete (Behemoth60) coming to the rescue and towing it the rest of the way.
I have some pictures I think somewhere, perhaps Bruce and the fabled Mr. R.A. Mullen have some memories/pics as well ?.

We did get it out though, and I do believe we still have a true motto of 'never having left a rig on the trail'. I also remember the surpised look on the tow truck drivers face when he was winching it up onto the flat deck in Coalmont and the tow trucks front wheels coming off the ground, "jeezus that things heavy" was his comment.

I seem to recall being at the front of the tow line going back to camp. Plus having to pull it solo all the way to Coalmont afterwards.

Glenn-BJ74:
You take the Hope-Princton highway and pass through Manning Park. Actually, Manning is a good place to strech your legs, have a pop, and watch the dogs chase gophers. After you pass out of the East Gate of the park, keep going towards Princeton. I can't remember how many kilometres, but its only a short distance before Princton to the Whipsaw trail head. You come down a hill and make a hairpin right turn, and there is that big road marked Whipsaw FSR as shown in the picture above. I'll try to come up with a map tomorrow. I just got in from out of town.

Glen-BJ74:
It takes about 1.5 hours from the Whipsaw trailhead to the old cabin with the grave and the small "Cruiser Lake" just beyond it. When you enter the Whipsaw trailhead, you follow the creek and valley and after about 3 k DO NOT veer to the right up Whipsaw-Lamont FSR. Stay on the main Whipsaw FSR and eventually you do have to go right at some point and go up to a higher elevation. I think that's where the main road kind of peters out at the Kettle Mountain area. What we are going to do is post yellow tape anywhere that we have to make a decision. So, if we go right at a "Y" or intersection, then we will plant yellow tape on the right road. It might be on a tree, a stick, or even some rocks. Similarly, if we go left, we will place the yellow tape on the left road. I can't make a map at this point because I don't remember the trail well enough. I'll do some more research and try to make a map later. Maybe somebody like Steve T or Mike McT could do a map better than me at this point.

Just so everyone knows, there's a good chance there won't be camping spots at Lodestone when you get there on Sunday.

What's up with "Team Polish" ? I thought you guys were all gung ho to do trips? Now all three of you are out?

I'm heading up to Lodestone on Thursday. We will drive down to Wells and such maybe on Friday afternoon, and maybe again on Saturday. Not interested in doing an "expedition" style trip through Whipsaw, considering I can drive the entire trail from beginning to end in one day... from my house!
Anyone wishing to join us (Phil, Ange and the kids) from Thursday on, we'll be there.

Hey Phil,

If you guys are going in the back way, I will too. The idea of breaking camp 3 times isn't appealing. looks like I'm coming up Friday morning.

Gary T and I are now planning to be at Ricky's at 10:00 a.m. Friday so we have time for a leisurely breakfast and pullout at 11:00. Are you joining us and do you know where Ricky's is in Chilliwack? You come out the freeway and exit south at Vedder Rd and Cottonwood corner, turn right at the Husky Station and follow that road to the "S" turns and Ricky's is there on the right side. If you have CB radio, you can call us on Channel 4.

Drew:
Thanks for the excellent maps.

We will be coming in through Coalmont. Hope to there Thursday afternoon, if'n I don't get lost again.... now was that 5 rights then a left or 6 rights then a left...

Hi Phil,

They are all rights until you make the left. ;)

I found the easiest way to remember is, all the rights have a slight upgrade to them, the left is pretty flat and a "Y" intersection, I believe its 12K mark. Just don't loose any springs.

Watch out for trucks. They will probably br in full swing. Last year I passed 2 water, 1 logging and 6 pickups (on the Thursday).

Yes Im still going, would like to leave with the friday gang, my new parts are in exept for the carrier bearings, at E.B.I. hopefully the 78 will be lifted an locked this trip.
