I do like the functionality of the bumper...the guards under the lights is a good idea...as you already know.

I wonder how many taillights he bashed before comming up with that idea? :hhmm:

if you trim down the center section could you fit bumperetts as well?

Not sure if he every bashed any tail lights before he installed it. The bumperettes seem to get beat up just as quick. He still had the original bumperettes, just some paint scratches from being stored. First met the guy last summer on his 86th birthday. He is in early stages if Alzheimer's:frown: This was his second cruiser. First one he thought was a 65 but all the items I got from him would make it a 63. Part of what I got was five biege bumperettes in great shape. He told my his dad had bought a Land Cruiser at the same time which would explain four bumperettes. He had no idea of why he had five. But this leads me to think he or his dad may have had a jeep before that and it got it's bumperettes bashed in. So the angle iron bumpers went on right away. I tried to get as much info from him as I could but he just didn't remember much. His wife was happy to see the cruiser get sold why he was still about to understand and could sign the title that was in his name only.:frown:

You mean cutting off the bottom off some older bumperettes so that it could fit over the lower angle, and then sandwich this big custom bumper/hitch/light guard he took off the newer 40 between the trimmed bumperettes and the frame? That could still look sort of stock with the bumperettes on there...I can't photoshop for beans...can anyone do a mock up of this...just curious on how it would look...:hhmm:

Really don't see anyway of installing the angle iron and the bumperettes without cutting a opening letting the bumperettes below the angle iron which would expose them to damge. Or I could flip the bumperettes upside down. But to do that I would have to check for clearance with the tailgate.:hhmm:

I have no photoshop skills what so ever, but this is what I saw in my head when I read Johnny's post. I think that if you took off a little on the bottom of the bumperette here and there, they might fit...

I won't cut up a good pair of bumperettes to do this but I have a few used and abused sets. Could also weld the bumperettes in place but since I plan to use this bumper on both the 25 and my 68 FJ40 that wouldn't work. On the 68 the bumperettes are further in with a reflector next to the tail light. Or I could use a rear crossmember to match the 68 and then weld the bumperettes in place:hhmm:

...just my two pence ;)
Would not change this homemade rear bumper.

Probably won't change anything on the bumper. The cruiser it came off of was over forty years old and the picture I was able to get from the PO shows the bumper already on back in the seventies. So it's been around a while. The cruiser itself is going into semi retirement and will no longer have a need for. But it will be transplanted to another cruiser. For a simple design it look like it would protect the back end very well.

"Doctor do Little" you say :hhmm:

spring reversal

I know shackle reveral is popular but I thought I would try something a little different. My springs are sagging. The front driver's is the worst. Figure since this vehicle sits for weeks a time I figure I would see what would happen if I rested frame on jack stands and use the weight of the axle to pull the springs in the other direction.

I was surprised how little the weight of the axle pulled the springs down. Then I noticed the stocks were at their limit and preventing springs from stretching down.:whoops:

Pretty sure all the pictures of this 25 have been with the soft top on. This last weekend I took the soft top off and put the bikini top on and drove to see the fall colors in the desert. Then put the cover that came with with it when it got put away for the next couple of weeks.

Time has finally cleared up do get some work done on this 25. The 25 was moved from up north to the valley back in May of last year where it sat in a garage. Plan was to take it up north last month but because of taking grandkids along most time that hasn't happened. How look looked last may and pictures of the trailer hitch as of a few days ago.

Watching this thread with great enthusiasm! I'm amazed how much of the 25's are similar to my '62. I'm preparing to remove body panels & bib and get mine running next week. Do the 25 ST doors fit a '62 rig, or were there changes that would prevent the match??? Mine's an FST

Changing the whole crossmember? Sending you some buttonhead bolts anyhow. ;)

Wasn't going to replace it right but I think that has chanced. Could use the bolts, thanks.

Pull up a chair, better yet pull up a recliner. Progress wouldn't be that quick. The doors and top are the same for FJ25 and early FJ40 soft tops. Picked up a set of 61 FJ40 soft top bows and they fit this 25 with no problem.

That is a lot of steel that needs to come off!! Cut and grind

Progress has been made. The hitch is now laying on the ground. Will post pictures later of how I removed it and why I will now be replacing the rear crossmember.

The amount of steel your taking off the cruisers is probably the same that natures taken off my cruiser thru the yearsLOL
