Where to find replacement sill and??

My CCOT peice came in two pieces.

As it should have, the outer peace (outer rear sill) is a cover/rear bead tie in to finish off the back of the tub. The longer section with the curved ends is actually the rear sill; this is what rusts which in turn will rust out the outer sill. The inner sill is virtually unprotected from mud and lacks drain holes so water sits and rots it out, once it goes the outer sill will begins to rust as well. The outer sill provides little structural support other then tying the rear bed into the sides of the tub. The reason for a two peace set up is so you can install the new inner sill then properly align the outer sill between the rear fenders. If you go to the CCOT site there are pictures of a rear sill install.

Good Luck!

Thank Corey. You conveyed what I was trying to say very well. I bought the cover piece for $40 and am goin to make the under sill myself out of Box steel. It will add weight but will also add lots of structure support.

yea who cares about weight, if you have the time and tools the inner rear sill can be fabed up with out to much work and save about $200.00.

Good Luck!

CCOT there is very little trimming. It basically lines right up with the factory welds and you only trim to make it fit around all the other edges that are hard to cut on the tub perfectly square. If you were at all like me you had a little rot out past that and the CCOT does not fix that. It was simple to make some patch panels my self though.

I know you arent looking to go the CCOT route but you have a good solid thread going here for future people searching this down so thought this might help...?

Thanks 4x4. I am going to start posting pictures when I get everything I need to do this project. I dont want someone having to scroll though 10 post to see one picture. Also, I am not exactly sure of what I need until I get the old rusted crap off the rear sill.

I only wanted the inner piece. They do not make it for the drop down tailgate so nuts have to be fastened to the inner piece.

It will be easier to work with in two pieces.

I also replaced my rear sill and channel with parts from CCOT. This was maybe 6 yrs ago and it is holding up very well. The quality was good, it came painted and pre-drilled holes for all the door stops and spare tire rack mount.

Source for Sill Cover?

Great thread for a newcommer to sill fun and games! Making one out of 2x2 but would like to buy a cover. Can't find the ebay seller , and need a source for a late model sill cover (1980). Anyone know of one (or better yet - have one)?

Milmin, I replied to your post, I sold the outer sill on ebay for awhile. I think I have one left. I have several for pre 75 models, 40.00 each on those.

I PMed you.

what year sill? i got the early style sill and it was very stout... just like the original why do you say it won't work?
It is the early. I did some additional reading. I just got the outer piece which I did not realize was just a bent body panel and really not structural. I probably should have gotten both. I am going to have to cut the old stuff out and see what's what in there.

ahhhhh right - yeah they aren't too clear about that. If yours is in bad shape and you've got some skills I'd go the route that 4x4SW and others have done.. use your old frame horns and build the structured part out of 2'' square tubing and a 1/4'' plate on top. You're piece from CCOT should slide over nicely.

It appears that it is only the back piece that is bad. Once I get into it, I may find I can use some square tubing or even a piece of U-Channel to repair it. The horns are fine.

Repaired rear sill and new bumper

So, I had the rear sill repaired and installed a new bumper. Here it is. Now and before.
