Where to find a 100 Series steering wheel in the US?

I'm finally committing to reupholstering the seats in my '99 and I'd like to replace the steering wheel as well. It's pretty gross and I figured finding a matching OEM wheel would be no big deal. Unfortunately looking on eBay they're all either remanufactured and shipping for $100+ from Pakistan or a couple are listed as new from UAE.

Is there a domestic source for OEM wheels I'm missing? Has anyone ordered from UAE/Pakistan and can weigh in on the quality of what they received? I just messaged one UAE seller on eBay with the best looking listing - I'd link it here but not sure it's allowed.

Better photo of the wheel. The one from UAE I’m eyeing doesn’t have the perforations along the outside. Seller says it’s a trim difference - never heard of that so maybe a regional difference.

How much skill or tooling did this take??

The upholstery shop I’m talking to about my seats doesn’t recover steering wheels but will swap them (with airbags, etc)
 
Not much skill needed. It’s very hard on the fingers but take your time to pull the thread tight. If I recall, you can also pay Alan to do it for you.
 
Hasan Khan sells them with fresh wraps, its the fastest/easiest solution that I've heard. I'm not sure what his handle is. Took me all of game 7 of the world series and then some to wrap mine with the Loncky solution. Maybe I'm slow, but it was challenging work.
 
You can order an already recovered wheel from them. I believe either by website or their eBay store. That’s what I do. They will provide an additional core credit if you send yours back.

Throwing it out there: I have my old wood/leather LX wheel someone can borrow to send in theirs for recovering. I went from wood/leather to all leather so I sourced a LC wheel and still have my LX wheel.

That's very generous of you! If I go the route of sending my wheel off to Dallas I may send you a message. Looks like we're both in the DC area too!
 
I don't remember the source but I bought a steering wheel for my 80 series from UAE and am not happy with it. The color is "off/wrong" and the paint is beginning to peel.
 
I’ll add a third DC area LC to the interested group. I did the Loncky recover about a year ago, and it’s fine for the price but I can already tell it’s going to wear out on the faster side.

I did the same and my results are ok, but I would not recommend this route to everyone. Like you, I have the visible wrinkles at the spokes. I also have some tension unevenness. That’s not a skill thing - the pattern has to be super accurate to be OEM quality and the leather I received was (charitably) not. Lots of adjusting, stretching, trimming, and cussing.

It’s a “you get what you pay for” type of thing.

To the OP: if you do go the DIY route, make absolutely sure you’re buying a genuine leather wheel skin that is cut for a bare wheel, not a “cover” that’s sized to go over the old leather. Most of the stuff for sale is the latter.

And stay away from microfiber or PU leather. Garbage, all of it.
 
Will another donor wheel, say from a 1998-2002 vintage 4Runner or other Toyota truck work temporarily while I send the LC wheel off to get refurbished?

Yes, there are a number of Toyota and Lexus wheels of the same vintage that will work but you'll likely have a disabled airbag in the meantime, as the wiring harnesses aren't likely to be compatible. Looking for feedback from @WrongsideDaily here as I know he was a non-stock steering wheel on his.

I don't know about 100s but I ordered a PVS replacement steering wheel for our 200 from Australia and I love that thing, much better ergonomic design than the original one and uses premium material. I *believe* they have options for the 100 but my experience is only with the 200.

Should physically bolt up. Mine is a Gen1 Matrix wheel. Wanna say there’s like two styles of hubs, and one works with the other, but not vice-versa. It’s been a couple years and was just something I was doing autonomously.

I did however just cram my 100 series cruise stalk behind the airbag this year which was a LIFE changer! This wheel seent 40k or so of my grungy hands and is looking rough, but I love the smaller diameter and hasn’t presented any other challenges with steering effort.

If you get sick of searching - I ordered one of the ebay wood/leather wheels from Taiwan and am still happy with it. Around $350 shipped, no fitment issues. The wood feels like an upgrade but that is of course subjective.

Bumping this with some additional info for anyone who is interested in the Taiwan-made LX/LC steering wheels.

I just did the swap, and I am glad I did. My original wheel was beat, and the Wheelskin I had over it was beat too. Anything would be an improvement, but this is actually nice.

Quality is good, fitment is good after some trimming - see below. The brown wood and tan/gray leatherette are close enough to my tan/oak interior that the difference is no big deal. Looks better in real life than most pictures.
