So I gotta say something about @cruisermatt … I haven’t met the dude in person… but I trust him. He says what he’s gonna do and he does it. He’s always lookin out for his customers’ best interests, he is always communicative, he sends a bunch of progress pictures along the way… I’m saying… if he has the opportunity to find/employ a larger team of capable folks that he can train or that come to the table with TLC experience, he’s gonna have a giant footprint here in the Southeast. I can’t sing his praises enough. With all of the half-ass, unskilled, unmotivated people that there are working in every form of retail or service these days, I can certainly appreciate what @cruisermatt brings to the table. OK, enough of that shiz… onto the pictures and my thoughts!!!

well well mr. Jesus888 ........

i could not agree more with your spoken-word here , i trust @cruisermatt very much too , he is a SOLID MUD Buddy of mine and a fellow MUD SUPPORTING VENDOR

i have turned to for all sorts of needy needs topics , including Technical advise , JIS and JDM Counsel , and most of all he is THE ONLY Entity on Earth that I would and

These are examples of the hesitation and this is just in a parking lot, the truck hesitated for about of the 5 mile drive over and it’s almost total loss of power, most noticeable when under load, but that seems normal since you feel the issue when you have the accelerator pushed.

Vehicle has excellent fuel pressure, excellent vacuum, gonna swap out the AFM today possibly, I’m just annoyed AF… new h55f and I just want to drive 😭😭😭

And on the way home after sitting for 45 min… mind you, started up and got 4 miles into our 5 mile drive driving perfectly and then after a stop light, more of the same

Also took some pics of the usual suspects but they look to be new-ish, including the loom, I honestly don’t remember if I paid someone to do that or what… also keep in mind engine was rebuilt only 5K miles ago and to my understanding thus started happening AFTER that engine was out back in.

Also, because I needed a W… I cleaned my front seatbelts with the pressure washer and holy shiz, did the gross come out… did this with my LX470 before and immediately the retractors worked 1000x better. Currently drying while I’m at kiddos soccer game.

Swapped out the AFM with one from a 93 Camry AFM that I picked at a local pull-a-part… the one that was on there is not OEM and was definitely smaller…

Also finished a little project that I had started this weekend… I read in another thread that Folex was the stuff to use to clean the headliner… mine wasn’t bad by any means and no rips/tears, so I knew all that I wanted to do was clean it.

That stuff works and the whole thing took me about an hour and a half, and that was me spraying/agitating/wiping with a microfiber. Also went ahead and emptied a small box of stuff that I had on the shelf with all new Oh s*** handles and grab-bars…

Let’s just say the top of this girl came out pretty pimp-tight with the new rear view mirror, 70 series visors, new handles, and a good cleaning.

Again, just going for a couple W’s while my multi-meter and a friend’s help come for hooking up a vacuum gauge, fuel pressure gauge, and working through some of the tune-up items.

Replaced the wiper motor today with a known working motor from Brooke Carr in TN…
New one isn’t as pretty as the old, but after installation, it seems to work a little better.
I may rebuild or dig into the old one and see what can possibly be rebuilt later.

I will note that the grommet on the linkage was rubber I believe and inside the cowl was clean AF so PO was definitely in there before…

PS screwing the linkage arm to the motor was a pain in the ass before mounting the motor back on the firewall…

And once that was buttoned up, and I was continuing to ignore my stumble issues, I thought it’d be a great idea to throw on my 4Runner blades since my wipers are junk.

Everything went well until I cycled the wipers, and while they parked in the right spot, before they parked, the passenger side continued passed the bottom of the windshield first, on every stroke.

So I knew at the minimum, I wanted to adjust the passenger arm a few teeth on the spline. It proved difficult to pull the new blade back off of the spline (because I didn’t add any anti seize even though I knew I should have) and while trying to manhandle it (which only works 25% of the time IMHO) I felt the wiper break away from the linkage inside the cowl 😭😭😭… like an ACL giving in full stride… I knew right away… that I’m going to have to pull everything back out and figure out wtf I did. Because now… only the driver wiper works (very well, mind you) but that’s not gonna cut it.

FACKKKKKKKK….

I forgot whose thread it was.. but for $67…
These fit the bill and with some small modification they fit pretty well.

There’s a molding on the passenger mat I don’t love but I don’t sit over there so 🤷🏾‍♂️

Husky Liners Classic Style Series... Amazon product ASIN B000CMFSHQ
Also regarding my passenger wiper, little more digging revealed that the most likely reason I thought I blew up my linkage somehow was that the splines on the wiper arm appear to be defective on one of the arms. Ordering another…

Hi, For that stumble check ALL wiring very carefully. I’ve found it’s the problem in all ours 98 % of the time. Some wires broken in plastic sleeves, ground wires shorted out, radio poorly wired, alarm systems shorting out and the list goes on. Tug on ever wire, if it comes loose there your problem.Check coil wire and spark plug wires. Use a meter if possible. I bet it’s something simple.

I went over everything I know to check and it’s stumped me 🤷

Flushed, confirmed it was working with a battery, cleaned inside, cleaned the gasket with a little WD-40 and put her back in.

One less revolution when starting. But piece of mind that it’s done.

Todays project is replacing the Side Cover gasket (push rod cover gasket) because it was mainly held on with rtv 🙄 after an engine rebuild and it was leaking… enough to leave a spot at any/all stops where I was parked for more than 10 min.

We pulled the distributor, wires, went ahead and got the plugs out, engine hook and the full air intake, AFM, and air box lid

Thoroughly cleaned both surfaces and sprayed some permatex (I know some folks don’t believe this is the way) on both sides of the gasket and a bit on the side cover, then after positioning the side cover where we wanted it, put the gasket wheee it needed to be and did our best not to over tighten the bolts.

I will note that there were 2 additional studs on the bottom of the block where the side cover goes that I found weren’t stock locations for studs, so we removed those and installed 10 x bolts with lock washers and 2 x nuts with lock washers.

Tomorrow will likely be adjusting the valves, getting the plugs and wires, and the air cleaner back installed and a fresh oil change to see if our effort was worth it…

Before we put the new plugs, cap, rotor, plug wires in and some fresh oil to check on the handiwork with the side cover gasket…

It’s time to adjust the valves (time to pop my cherry) and I’ve read/watched enough videos to know it’s not too big of a deal but I need to learn sooner than later.

That being said, step 1 is completed, removed the valve cover along with the valve cover gasket, PCV valve, and grommets for the bolts.

While I know the engine was rebuilt 5K miles ago, I’m blown away at the condition of some of the dumb stuff… like all of the grommets including the PCV valve grommet being hard as a rock, and the gasket also barely remaining pliable…

All good though, that’s why we do it. To make sure it’s been done.

Todays activities…

🐒 Adjusted the valves, and there were a few pretty outta whack (on the tight side), I’d post lots of pics, but it was mainly audio of us cursing with the amount of space in some spots…

🐒 Got the freshly cleaned valve cover back on, with a (greatly needed) new gasket and grommets for the bolts

🐒 New PCV and grommet…

Just a note… I know the motor has had a rebuild in the last 5K miles but sheesh, to go through all of that effort and not replace some of these gaskets and small stuff blows me away… grommets and gasket may have been from the factory.

Add to the list…
🐒 Clean Idle Control Valve along with the housing it was going back into
🐒 Cleaned the throttle body before putting the air hoses back on…
