Took the ol' stinker up to Tahoe to escape the 100 degree heat. Did pretty good. 2.5 hours each way in 100-110 heat and climbing over 7000 feet in elevation.. and with all that gear. Yes my daughter was happy to be leaving the valley, but not so happy later on... ha! All windows down and stereo cranking to keep up. Tried to do 65 the whole way. Motor only got a teeny bit hot on the way up, but nothing major.
Took ours into the Great Sand Dunes Nat'l. Park via the back way over Medano Pass last Thurs/Fri. High alpine to shifting sands, all within a couple of hours. Rewarded by a nice double rainbow in the visitor center parking lot shortly before setting up camp. Other pics show genuflecting to the Sand Gods (airing down for the final portion of the route) and a pretty spectacular stormy sunset over the dunes.
Ige...airing down as the sign directed after three or four miles of similar sandy stuff. Totally unnecessary as we were on pavement a few miles later after finishing up over nothing worse than we'd already seen. Really cool drive from Westcliffe over the top to the Valley. Also great camping spots up in the forest.
Ron...No garage queens at our place. Rejuvenation of the 914-6 starts later this month. It'll be baselined and back on the road for the first time in 4-5 years with body and paint to follow over the winter. Then comes the Model A pickup.
One of my wife's co-workers asked a few years ago..."Don't you guys have any new vehicles?" Closest we come is an 11-year-old Exploder with almost 100k on the clock. Something's gotta have a/c where we live!

Took the old lady ( and the cruiser) up to Gold Lake 4x4 camp. Very cool spot. Did some wheeling, trail running, paddle boarding, mountain biking. Had fresh biscuits off the tailgate, drank more beer than we should have and generally had another good time in the cruiser. 18 year wedding anniversary trip.
Started a leak in the power steering pump... limped home.
New bike rack worked great, even with the slamming it took wheeling. The best part is being able to drop it so the tail gate can open. ( visible just under the tailgate in the last photo...)
It's called Camp Chef.... we got it at Costco of all places... She got it for Mothers Day... ha ha ha ha ha (really).
Its nice as you can run it off of the small propane bottle ( wee little green ones) or a bigger unit. also, comes with a great skillet so you can do eggs, bacon etc on top while baking something below. We made coffee cake the second day.
It has found a permanent home in the back of the cruiser. No questions asked.
Added a shot of the lake. Super nice place. May go back next weekend if I can fix the power steering gear.
Nice! I like it all, the lake, 18 year anniversary, a bike rack that does not raise your CG, and an oven that looks cooler than my little EZ Bake w/ the light bulb inside.
