Is that White Crack campground ?

Seems it's been to long since someone has posted in this thread...and I know people have traveled this summer to much better places than I.

Anyway, some camping pics from the UP of Michigan. Our favorite spot is along the shores of Lake Superior. August seems to be the best time...no bugs, warm during the days and cool at night.

When I was a kid, we used to drive north from Sault St. Marie, up Hwy17 to Obatanga Provential Park - just past Wawa. Nothing beats camping on a remote beach, watching the moose and seeing the float planes come and go. Absolute bliss.

Have only had the wagon a few months but second trip out was to the Northland Region here in NZ. Most of the video is of our drive up 90 mile beach, then forded up Te Paki Stream for about 3.5km, to hang out at Te Paki Sand Dunes for a bit before heading off. Bunch of other places visited such as Raglan(super nice surf town here on the North Island), Rotorua for some natural hot springs, and Taupo to make for a 2600km road trip.

I took my daughter out driving, again. We both had fun... and she got to call a Jeep a "Scaredy Cat" for not climbing the steep hill.

For our benefit on that trail were you locked, unlocked, in low gear or D, estimated tire pressure? More curious than anything.

Some new campsites I found in Colorado

Also ran Pearl Pass for the first time. Thought it would have been quicker than 4 hours of driving on pavement. I was wrong, but it was definitely more fun.

I’ve done this trail a few times, each with the rear locked, 4Lo, tires at street pressure - zero drama. This time, the rear locker wouldn’t engage and I didn’t have enough room to walk the back around to align the pin, so I just went up open diffs. The only spot I got stuck was on the step shown in the video. Just had to back up a few feet and get a bit of a run at it, but then I wasn’t going to let up as the last few dozen yards were very loose and steep.

I like Rohwer Flats more than any trail around here because there are no (ok, very few small rocks), unless you are on the other side going down to the highway, but still small.
Congrats to your daughter. Mine would love to drive my 80, but not off road. And she would not come with me off road.

That's a good data point for new folks who freak out about getting a locker installed. Lockers are very useful but not mandatory for what a lot of people do in their 80 (camping trips, forest roads, etc...).

It's the place were bodies and parts go to die, or were you realize your wallet just got a little thinner.

See the carnage on Beach and Toys thread.
Apparently that trail gets worse and worse every year.

Jim,
were you daughter behind the wheel where the trail was forked to the left at the top in my picture below of Rohwer?

Naw. We only did the first hill. She wanted to go stomp around the flats, so we turned around and rolled back down. Haven’t been around the full loop. The second climb (in your pic) looks to be about the same as the first. Harder or easier?
