Blown transfer case and just about the worst V8 swap I’ve seen. This is day 1, having it dragged to my girlfriend’s (now wife’s) townhouse so I could hide it from my parents (who I lived with) because I was supposed to be saving for a house …
I guess I’ll add one more for a “now” picture… it looks…basically the same… I’ve done very little cosmetically, but I completely re-did the V8 swap, new seats and center console, up-armored, disc brakes, rear locker etc.
Wow, I used to have these catalogs from Downey and Man-A-Fre. The year I bought mine was 1976…possibly a broader range of colors as mine was navy blue and it came as a complete kit..I did not get any doors as I still used the stock steel doors. Eventually that year the local Toyota dealer installed air conditioning and it was remarkable how well it worked …1/2 cab or steel stock top. It was also a slim thin fit that followed the dash lines under the glove box and then had an added vent on the drivers side….it did not eat up the passenger foot well space like some do now. Again, if I remember , the a/c was $1300 installed in 1976. Sold that truck with everything in either ‘79 or 80 for $2800.00. The Vermont winters had a feast on those spot welds.. Here is a clearer photo
Here's the day I brought my '76 FJ40 home in June of 2000.
I immediately rebuilt the motor.
I think I still have that mirror with the dent in it somewhere...
But I wheeled and DD's that truck for 10 years.
Earliest pic I have from the “up armor” phase circa 2nd-ish year of ownership in and around the 2012/13 time frame. 1.0 brought East out of Idaho to the Land of Nod.
Recent pic w/Aq body “massaged” by RCLC in Akron /Wooster OH. Seats skins created local by JR’s Upholstery. Interior installed by resident knuckle dragger and part time wino…
