I'll post pics later, but I installed a brown skin on my 2000 with tan interior less than a year ago (less than 15K miles) and the darn thing is already fading, i.e its starting to look like the original wheel cover before I bought the wheel skin (turning dark brown on the top side)... other than that the fit and feel is perfect, it almost looks factory

Bryon,
Are you coming to the wrench day on Saturday? I'd like to check it out if you drive the 100 to the shop.

Installed the oak this afternoon and very happy with the results. All you guys complaining about your sore little fingers need to suck it up!

Couple of tips:

Push the needle through both holes before pulling the thread through

It works better if you tension each stitch as opposed to doing 'loose' stitches and then going back and tightening them

My leather looked a little loose around the wheel posts but putting some pressure on the leather as I twisted it towards the inside of the wheel snugged it right up

Get some needle-nose pliers to help get tension on the thread if they look loose

Be prepared with a spare needle - I broke two in the process

That's it - as far as simple and cheap upgrades go I don't think you can do better than this.

Pics to follow...

Oak wheelskin:

While not a perfect match to any existing color it looks very natural and blends in nicely.

I've had "oak" on mine ('99 with a tan interior) for three years, starting to see some of the leather tint wear off and the original color of the leather is coming through. IMHO, it's held up very well and the quality of the product is top-notch. Not a perfect match to the interior, but still vastly superior to the worn out OEM stuff.

Ugh! That is for a 03 to 07 LC.

Installed. Used the Oak based on recommendations from my 2 children. Looks great. Took 1 hr. Pics later.

I would highly recommend the Wheelskins, what a difference.

Guys,

Are there any pics of brown wheelskins installed on a 2000 era?

Are you still liking??

I ran wheelskins on two of my other rigs....they are tight fit, hard on fingers when sewing, take some time to pull ever single loop really tight.....but they last a very long time and are great looking without that spongy, loose, or cheap feel of the ones in Autozone or other car part boutiques.

I need one for mine to go along with seat covers. THanks for reminder.

Since none are perfect match with LX tan interior...was thinking of OAK or Brown where my wood is on wheel...and the next lighter shade where it is leather to keep the two tone appearance. Sand looks almost identical to seats....others match dash and center of wheel. Who knows.....but that wood portion gets slippery on the trails when sweating...no i dont run AC on trails in summer. LOL But I do run seat heaters in winter. :D :D FTW

Is almost a year after the install and I'm still happy for sure. Everything is tight, no slipping or funky discolor.

Thanks guys!

After re-reading this post, I'm leaning towards the Oak color. Anyone regret the oak?

Also, I noticed ebay has a lot of listings. I'm assuming the AXX size is correct for our vehicles.

fyi, I installed the Oak colored AXX wheels skins yesterday. Color and fit was very good. It tool me about 1.5 hrs.

I could have gone faster, if I had though to turn wheel as I laced up. Somehow, I did think to turn the wheel until I was bout 2/3 complete.

Anyway, I'm very happy with results.

Here's another oak/tan comparison shot. Everyone thinks it looks stock. Mine went on pretty easily ~45minutes. Could be because of the warm humid weather, or maybe I just have "Man Hands."

I did not like the look of these Wheelskins at all, too bulky and looked cheesy (to each his own I know). I wanted OEM all the way or as close to as possible. Cut off the old nasty leather with a razor blade and take it to a leather upholstery guy. He will make you a new one and a perfect match (approx $70) and pre-punch the holes. It is time consuming (four hours or so), but it looks absolutely factory. Sorry no pics, I did it on the LX450 before I sold it. You can borrow the wheel puller from any auto store, but follow the FSM about handling/disengaging the airbag. The key is warm leather, upholstery needles, waxed thread to match and crazy glue. Sure, it takes way longer to do it this way but the results are much better than a cover. Again, just my opinion.

Brown steering wheel cover or wheelskins?

I decided on the brown wheelskins cover, as I think the darker brown blends better than the lighter colors. But now that I have it on there (not stictched, just sitting) I am curious if anyone can post any pictures if they did a brown wheelskins or steering wheel cover?

Also, has anybody removed the leather on the top and bottom of the steering wheel (not around the "spoke" or whatever connects the wheel to the collumn)? Is that question clear as mud? My goal of wanting to try that is so it isn't so large when I ad the cover.

Thanks for any input.

Brown wheelskin cover installed!

I installed the brown wheelskin cover last night and it looks really good. I didn't like the oak, tan or sand even though they were closer to the colors in the car, they weren't an exact match to the colors. I know the brown isn't an exact match, but I think it compliments the interior colors well. It also isn't as thick as I thought it would feel.
I will post pics later.

Thanks for everyone's post on colors, etc... which helped me decide.

I think I am going to order brown top/bottom and oak on sides...as the LX wheel has leather on sides and wood on top and bottom. Ordering today....but for your knowledge the steering wheel covers are different for LC and LX vehicles. My Lexus 470 needs size C for 98-2013, while the Land Cruiser needs AXX through 2007 and then C for the ones afterwards. Check charts before ordering.
