Travis, i know you couldn't make it out to the San Juans but you should just load up the kiddos and come camping at Wheeler instead!

X2 Travis, what say you

I just realized we hit up Travis to come along on this trip and he never replied! I think he's avoiding :poof:

Ha! No, not avoiding. :D I was in Missouri last week and had limited computer/internet access. Must have missed these.

Wish I could make it but the wife's working and I've got the kiddos. I think the girls wold like the trip, but probably a bit much for the little dude.

Trying to make things work for next month's BV trip. Thinking of trying to sneak a little local run in soon as well. ??? I waited all winter for summer wheelin' and haven't been out yet. :crybaby:

Anyhoo... you guys have fun and take a lot of pics.

So the western at 6 what. We will get ready as fast as we can and if we wait for you that's ok. I hope you are alright with me if I am running behind. I just hope we find somewhere to camp.

It'll be ok, I'm leaving work at 4:30 so hopefully will be moving out on time. just have to load the cooler

Travis, I'm down for a local run. Bring the kiddos and maybe hit Metberry to play in the river? Just a thought.

I would like to have gone on the wheeler trip, but I have to run damage control on the cherokee this weekend after Holy Cross. Poor dude is pretty beat up from that trip, but made it all the way!! Solid trooper. The wife and I have had an unbelievable summer while kidless, lol, it's been getting out of hand-- may need the kiddo back to settle ourselves down a bit. :D

Wife stopped to get the kids something to eat but I am at the western

You guys have fun! And don't forget the pics! :D

Metberry sounds like a great idea. I've done the gulches a couple time now, but always in winter. Would love to get down there when it's "green".

Man!... I'd hate to see your version of "getting out of hand".

We had a wonderful time. Met Greg and his boys at the western in Woodland Park and headed out. He had an idea of staying in Weston Pass since that is all he could find and I didn't do any investigating so how could I argue. It was a beautiful place to camp. The only thing bad about it was the Mosquitos, but I don't think there is a place on those mountains where you would be safe. Good thing I have been packing spray with just waiting to use it. We got up Saturday morning and made breakfast then shoved of to meet the Moose. We got to the trail head and I noticed a couple of yahoo's had there trailers in this tight parking spot trying to unload there rigs. I told my wife this is gonna be a good show. Turns out it was one of the Gc's i work for and when I talk about my jeep friends this is one of them. He got rid of his jeep and now only has a buggy. His friend who was with had one sweet Bronco. I talked with them a bit as we waited on the Moose. It had been over an hour and at least 50 rigs went up the trail. Finally he shows up and says he has been waiting at the bottom for us for over 40 minutes. Apparently we got our wires crossed. Well we started the trail at about 11 right behind my friend and it was mostly stop no go traffic right away. We hit some obstacles and then the v-notch area. Moose had little trouble on the hard part then Greg was iffy and then crawled the boulder up. I decided to do the notch. Well I started out slipping and just kept trying and eventually got all boogered up and had to pull the winch. I started to climb it sideways and it was thought if I backed out I may tip. We got that squared away and on to bowling ball hill. What a long Hill that was. They seemed a lot bigger then bowling balls too. We got up to the lake to a huge crowd but man was it beautiful. Kids played in the water and the snow. Once we all got our bellies full, mine more then the others, we headed back. I ended up yelling at the boys for talking back to there mom and just as I took my eyes off the road whammy. Smashed a big rock right on the transfer case skid. I bent it pretty good but thats what happens when your not paying attention. The only cool thing that we didn't get on camera was Mr. Moose went down the v-notch and picked his rear tires off the ground again. I have only wheeled with him 2 times but both times he has done that. We got back to camp and had a nice camp fire, kids played, and we shared stories. We got up in the morning and Mr. Moose headed home. We finished packing up and headed to mosquito pass,(because we didn't get enough of them at camp). On the way a spiked buck ran right in front of Greg and smoked the side of a subaru then shook it off and ran away. CRAZY but everyone was OK. It was gonna be my wife's second trail run in the jeep. I didn't think it was going to be that rocky but with some spotting to reassure her and me taking the easy lines through so she could follow, she did great. She only hit her skids once. We got back down and aired up and headed on our way home. As we were coming to divide Tucker, my youngest, spilt his drink so my wife pulled over and I behind her. I said good bye to Greg as he kept on to get his Kiddo's home. We got his clothes changed and back on the road. It was a traffic jam in the pass so we came back to Woodland Park and ate at McDonalds and aired down as I didn't want my trip to end on a big traffic Jam. We headed up to rampart and took Mt.Herman home. We got all unloaded and everything put away. The Kids were being so good that I even went down to the DQ and got everyone a blizzard. Everyone in my family except henry the dog that is. I had fun wheeling with you guy's this weekend. I know I will see the Moose but Greg I hope you get a chance to get out sometime after the new baby comes. I know it will be tough. Now for the Pics

Moose on the first Obstacle
A Stock Ranger Went up Just to the right of him. If he had any trouble or let off the gas he would have likely rolled and been hurting bad.

Some awe inspiring pics Matt. Thanks for posting. Very jealous I didn't get to make the trip...even though the 100 might have been in over her head on a few of those shots.

Thanks for posting a trip report.

You would have done just fine as long as you don't go racing around trying to take pics. Ya seriously if you take your eyes off the road you could start tearing things up. I was constantly playing catch up with these guys as they were going pretty quick through the trail. Basically saying 35's roll a lot quicker then 33's or maybe it's just me driving like a grandpa.:zilla:
