I am moving to a new city and for the first time we will need to use Google maps frequently. Where is everyone mounting their phones these days? With what? Are there any good on dash options these days? I am not interested in a Tesla style screen but would be open to replacing the old radio, potentially. Let's see what works!

I pieced together a magnetic charging mount on my dash using the following:
  • Ball mount through-bolted (I don't like the adhesive because it tends to be more wobbly and will fail with enough time + heat)
  • 90* slim elbow for USB-C (keeps a clean appearance and sends the cord back through dash, easy to disconnect when removing panel)
  • Magsafe charger (magnet is similar or stronger than Scosche mounts I have used in the past, centers nicely, charging speed depends on what cable you use to supply it)

Behind the dash, a 6ft USB-A to USB-C cable runs from my BT45 TOY to the elbow which fits snuggly in a hole cut via dremel. I love this setup because it is visible, not blocking my line of sight, charges my phone whenever I am driving, doesn't inhibit radio or HVAC controls, and is very stable/strong. That said, it took a good bit of research to find all the parts that would work together.

Quad Lock.
I use Quadlock with the wireless charging head with ram ball mount on my dual sport motorcycle and mag mount in the 100. Absolutely perfect setup.
