I found this on Mud written by Woody. It's enough of a boost of confidence for me to keep what I already bought. Cheers.

The Badlands is a new series for Harbor Freight, and yes, they hired an engineer from MileMarker to design them.

I've got a 12k on the front of my 80 right now, one of the early versions. Other than a controller connection issue, it's worked flawlessly...and they were redesigning that and a couple other minor items that I had pointed out.

It drug a couple rigs up Escalator in Moab with no issue (and as Mark from MetalTech put it, "it doesn't sound like a bag of rocks" (like most cheap winches do...ha)...)

In Golden Mountain TN, it drug my 80 up a rock/muddy hillside that bent the 3/8" cat guard pretty well...

Just used it again this weekend to winch out bushes

The test for ME is how it works after a winter in WI...but thus far, I've been impressed with it...especially for the price.

When I spoke with HF, they were well aware of their 'crappy tool' persona, and this is one of the items the intend to alleviate that impression.

Watch for synthetic winch rope too...I replaced my cable instantly with synthetic, but they mentioned that it is on their list of product offerings.

Just picked up a new 76 40 today!!!! Woot but it's in pieces and it has some really nice stuff to go with like a 350 bell housing adpt. and a 4speed tranny with a 3.8 v6 out of a camaro from the early 80s grrrr not going in the truck but the body is in descent shape and the jewel are the finders they are in great shape and going on my 74 asap. And the hood and doors are in good shape along with a pair of soft top doors and a great complete frame with axles. And the thing that makes the whole deal are the brand new s/s I think tsl's but not sure it was dark and there 33/13or14 not sure defiantly not 12.5s lol new chrome wagon wheels these alone are worth what I paid for the whole package and I got a deal at 650 for all parts and truck

OK....made the f@&*('in mistake that I have warned people about. I have never had issue with removing the fill plug from either diff. Took the front diff drain plug out and can't get the fill plug out. To make it worse, I have succeeded in rounding off most of the edges of the head of the fill plug. I don't have a welder to weld another nut on it.....so anyone got any suggestions? :bang: :bang:

LOL. I just did the same thing! But I can't get the drain plug out. Sorry, I can't help! But when you find your solution, please share.

Try cutting a slot in the head of the bolt and use a screwdriver with a ratchet on the end or a wrench on the shaft. I have a welder if you want to borrow it. You can also use an air chisel on the head to try to get it to spin.

Hope one of those ideas works.

Also if you can carefully cut the bolt enough all the way through the head it will release the clamping force of the bolt and then put a vise grip on it and it shouldn't be very hard.

I'd try Bart's idea first.

doubt that the slot will give enough torque.

air hammer or chisel big one & a bigger hammer .the olde coonass fix---- if at first you don`t succeed ----- use a bigger hammer

I have the allen head replacements. Bought them a while back. I just need to get the damn thing out. Tried the vice grips and that only succeeded in rounding off the points. I will try the chisel and hammer coonass fix and / or cut a slot trick this evening. Thanks for the tips.

I know I had issues with my brake bleader thing, and it wouldn't budge. I couldn't get the vice grips to bite. So I took a wood clamp, those things that you squeeze the trigger to tighten, and put the vice grips on the bolt. Then used the clamp to "lock" the vice grips on to it. It got it a Lot tighter. Then put a creasent wrench on the vise grips. Should work. I learned that a long time ago. Hope ya get it out.

If not that, I don't know if these things work for the bigger bolts. What about those things that you drill a small hole in the end, then turn it backwards with this soecial head that holds on to it.

Cody, I think you are referring to an extractor like what John is talking about. I didn't think of that either. I will go that route first and see how that does. Then I'll break out the BFH and the chisel if the extractor doesn't work.

Hmm. Well his post wasn't there when I started. :).
