What would you pay for a 78 FJ40 parts vehicle??

A fellow cruiserhead that I met down the road from me stopped by and told me he was going to get rid of the 78 that has been sitting at his house for 5 years or so. He said the clutch went out of it and that's why he quit driving it. The motor was started monthly till a year or so ago, but is still loose now. The tub is pretty much toast, rot in the floor, sill, and wheel wells. Doors are in decent shape. Top is nice as is all of the glass. Seats are all acounted for. The main reason I'm looking at it is for the disk brake front end and 3.73 gears. He said he was thinking of somewhere around a $1000.00. Would it be worth wild to grab it for the front and rear ends and just part it? Or would I be better off just finding one at the salvage yard and grabbing what I need there?

Witha running 2F and lots of other parts, you could probably sell the stuff for more than $1000. Offer him $500 and settle for $750.

Dang, I was under the impression it would have the 3.73s. No P/S or A/C, just a basic rig that has been sitting for quite awhile. I don't want to give him less than a fair price, as he's a really nice guy, but I don't want to be on the losing end of the stick either. I'll go back and see if I can get a pic of it.

guy locally was working on selling his 78 for $500...running, driving, 350 SBC....

outta call and see if he still has it....rusted to hell, but parts would be worth it....

yeah, i hear ya on the not wanting to bust the other guy up.

i think that 750 would be a fair price, esp b/c the engine isn't running right now. also the fact that you wouldn't be able to use many of the body panels (the hardest to find, most expensive stock stuff, IMO)

Well it looks like I got it for around 700.00. We were talking about collecting stuff and I mentioned I had an old unrestored Gas Pump and lo and behold, he was wanting one of those things. So we worked out a deal where no money had to change hands, and both of us walked away happy. If only all deals could end up going that well. Now I just need to start planning on how I can get it dismantled while I'm moving. LOL

Here's a pic of it. Turns out it's a 79, so I will get the 3.73s. He also threw in a Bestop bikini top and half doors, a receiver hitch, and engine and body shop manuals.

The last thing I need is another vehicle to drive. Funny thing is those are the wheels I really wanted for mine, but had a pain in the butt trying to get any. Toying with the idea of pulling them and blasting and powder coating them for a spare set. If I start working on it I'll want to keep it and drive it, that's why I need to just get it ripped apart. That's a round headlight bezel. I bet you got 4.11's. Good thing if you did though cause those are the fine spline pinion ones that are very desireable.
It may have been titled as a 79, but I bet the build date is before 1/79.
