I'm not the greatest with the search engine but I didn't find too much on this subject so...

What would you keep on a totaled '06 before I send it back to the yard?

My 100% maintained and rust free 2006 LX470 with ~210k miles was totaled and I bought it back. Bumpers, skids, sliders, winch, transfer case (low gear redone) and pumpkins (4.88's and Eatons) are going into the new to me '05. What else should I part out and keep for future just in case? I'm already thinking CV's and driveshafts as backup. Engine and transmission are just too big for me to store and/or tackle.

But what else? I seem to recall the brake booster/ABS something is expensive? Steering rack too difficult to get to?

Thank you every/anyone! Cheers!

Are you keeping things as back-ups for yourself or to sell? The engine and tranny would be the biggest money makers, not sure why you wouldn't pull them. Other than that, if you have the space and time and are selling parts, get everything you can - seats, interior trim, dash pieces, NAV, etc. At 200k I wouldn't use some parts, even though expensive new, like a brake booster, as a replacement, unless you're rebuilding it off vehicle as a spare.

How bad is the damage? Can't some states re-title vehicles with a "salvaged" title? I've seen that a few times up here in Montana..The vehicle as a whole may be worth it to someone. IDK

Rollover at 50-60mph. ABCD pillars both sides, all glass broken except passenger rear wing, and amazingly the sunroof.

No Cheers…

Oopha, glad you walked away from that one...brutal.....yeah I can see why parting out may be the only option, shoot...

Take whatever you can get your hands on and have room to store / list on eBay / mud...Tires, wheels, seats... I don't know if I would start pulling CVs and stuff but that's just cuz I don't have a shop / the right tools... If you have the ability then go for it.....I know crackheads like to chop catalytic converters off , I don't know what to do with it from there but may be a few bucks in that.

Thanks for the reply. Really just thinking of stuff that might be an expensive backup. Not trying necessarily to make money off the vehicle, I was lucky to buy it back pretty cheap and was able to salvage all of the expensive add-on parts.

I was actually thinking of starting a separate thread to see if there was anything anyone needed, parts or anything from the interior if they were interested in covering shipping or if they were local-ish to Northern California. Give back to the community a bit.

Hello RJ,
There may be a member or two near by that would be willing to help you disassemble in exchange for some parts.
I know I'd be willing if I was close to you...
I'd post some pics in the classified section.
If you price things for 1/2 what they are used on eBay, things will sell quickly.
I parted out some Land Rovers (sorry forum...) in the past and that's how I priced items for a quick sale.
Considering a good used VVT-i motor is $3000+, you should be able to get $1500+ and have the person come help you get it out.
Good luck with the part out.
Tom

Seats, door cards, door locks, window motors, dash, console, cluster, starter, radiator, alternator, power steering pump, charcoal canister, brake calipers, jack, tools kit, spare tire, ECU, AC amplifier, evaporators and compressor, all kind of relays, electrical modules/boxes, sensors, switches including those on engine, transmission, and t-case ......

That’s a perfect candidate to chop the top add a cage cut the fenders and go play !
**** yeah . Although the engine bay looks pretty foamed out, wonder if that stuff is nasty or washes away... Damn fireman, always messing stuff up
